Phase 1 of my 4th Gen build up

Well, today was a good day..Finally got the 4runner off the blocks..

Started replacing suspension on Sunday, had to also remove the XREAS stuff...

Did the rear first with OME 80 series shocks (60020) and Toytec Superflex coils..

Then up front dropped in my ICONS and LR UCAs, one of the ball joints was loose, so the great folks at Specialty Products in Longmont Co..Were very super and warrantied my just over 12 month old wheel bearing...Thank You Jeff!

We decided to grind the larger calipers down a bit to fit my TRD 16 inch gun metal wheels but.....we needed to grind so much to get them to fit that when we tested the brake pressure, we blew right through the thin metal with brake fluid....

So we replaced with the smaller rotors and calipers and the 16s fit perfect, also decided to throw in a new set of Sumitomo's upfront and wrapped it up this afternoon in time for lunch at Jimmy Johns...

I am super happy with the look and feel of the set up. The ToyTec coilovers give a hands down better ride then the OME 895s I had on my FJC.

The 255/85s rub just a touch on the mud flap when turning, so tomorrow will do some trimming. The spare is snug and will have to let the air out a bit to get it to fit without too much rubbing on the swing arm.

The first weekend..wahsed, removed the side steps, installed Lower Links, skid plates from FJC...

255/85/16 in a Maxxis Big Horn is 33.3 tall at 10.3 wide. Really a perfect size.. I have run 285/75/16s and 315/75/16s on my FJC, wish I had just gone this size first.

I had All Pro skid plates..They are great. Cover what you need but not too much. The transfer case skid plate, does not transfer over but I think that is due to bolt whole availability..I am evaluating how to mount my transhfer case skid over the next few days. If it is just bolt wholes, I will drill a few wholes in the frame to accomodate. That skid plate had been really hit with the FJ, maybe due to shorter wheel base.

I beat these Lower control arms pretty hard on the FJC, so I had them powder coated to match the TRD wheels..kind of cool. Also the boot that covers the LCA mount to the frame is a key purchase..I bent mine on the FJC before I installed these..This is also an ALL Pro product.

Items that transferred over from the FJC:
-skid plates
-wheels
-lower control arms/or they are called lower links
-Light Racing Upper control arms
-Icon coil overs
-rear shocks
-rear coils

You know, you only have to swap out the front calipers and rotors. Not that expensive really. 500.00 parts max and then labor. My brakes felt a little squishy anyway and now they feel perfect. Plus I am only going to tow a pop-up.

Thanks man, I had two pair of the TRDs and sold one pair over the weekend in the blue room. I sold the pair that was near perfect..Sad to see the perfect pair go. The word is the gun metals are no longer in production. Wo what is out there is all that are going to be produced..

What's next?

Install existing stuff...HAM radio, Power tank, fridge...

New Mods....Front bumper, need a new baja rack for a 4runner..

3" lift front/back, probably nets 2.5 No spacers!

Looks real nice - killer wheels. I really like how interchangeable the parts are with the FJ. It's great to have mods available without having to spend additional money.

Seeing the blue 2nd Gen in the background of your third picture is causing flashbacks to my first 4Runner...

Exactly. Remember most of your stopping is done by the front brakes, hence why they always wear out before the rears.

The rear set up size is comparable to an FJC and the 16s fit just fine.

Man, you are on it...I have been sweaten this for a few days...I am headed to Moab via the Kokopelli trail on Thursday and I thought I better get this figured out asap, since I ain't got no dough for a CBI for a while....

I aired down to about 10PSI and it fits but does rub on the Panrhard bar...My buddy came over last night for a beer and said get a ratchet strap and let more air out of the tire and then ratchet that sucker around the treads, he said it will push the rubber on the side walls and should give me the clearence I need...

I will try it tomorrow and get back to ya..
