This time I'll be without a runner for about 8-10 months.

I am in the same boat. Then.........my Dad hits me up and tells me that he is ready for me to take full time ownership of the 1976 Bronco that has, as of 2 days ago when I signed the title, been in my family now for 3 generations. Below are a couple of pictures from each of my boys first camping/overlanding trips.

I may be without a 4Runner for a while now that I have this. I've had the pleasure of having it here at the house for a couple of months at a time, but now having it full time, I am pretty sure that I will put the time and money in it.

There's a heck of a lot you can do with/to those old Broncos--not such a bad replacement for your Runner!

Helo, that thing is sweet. I'd rock the hell out of that too, and I probably wouldn't do anything to it but throw on some sliders and a set of KM2s.

I haz a jealous.

On a good note, his sliders are more or less finished. I need to grind down some welds on the driver side sliders where they mount to the frame and re-weld them. The frame was prepped very well and the welds are garbage. I also ran out of wire when welding the last post on the passenger side so I'll finish those welds soon.

Here are pics of the passenger side.

Some pics of the welds. They're not perfect but I'm more than confident that they'll hold under any impact.


You can see one spot where I didn't clean the frame very well... This is a good example of why it is important to have clean bare metal to weld on.

At least you CAN weld, Jon! Those are pretty darn nice looking beads in my book. I'll be thrilled when I finally get around to learning the art and have some decent equipment--I love the idea of being able to fabricate whatever I need.

Let me start with saying, I have NEVER seen a 2nd gen I liked. NEVER. I was voting for T4RotM and passed over yours, I accidently clicked your build link, HOLY SHIT. First and only 2nd gen worth looking at (No offense to any other second gen owners. 3rd gen fan.) Well done man! :hatsoff:

Here she is with the new sliders, built and welded by SVDude. I like! I'd say I helped, but didn't do too much, so big kudos to SVD!



Next we will build a rear bumper and tire carrier, but I get to to weld that. I better get to practicing.

I'm depressed, had to paint the doors and get them back on for the colder weather. I painted my rims just for fun though.

Personally I like the look of it WITH the doors, but that's just me. Any plans yet for the rear flares, or is that one of those "backburner" projects for another time? I think this would look great with those pocket-style flares that you see guys adapt from the 1st Gen models for the 2nd Gen (the rear ones would be two-part design for the door).

I do like the look with the doors on, but the tube doors are unique as far as 4Runners go, you just don't see them often.

The rear flares are on my list, but just not high on the list. Because of the way I cut the fenders, some modification will be requires.
