It seems like everyone on this site has a build thread so I figured I would start one of my own. My first 4runner was a 99 that was originally from up north (Canada) and stumbled upon it by mistake. At time I was actually looking for a 4x4 Tacoma but came across the 4runner on craigslist. It was 4x4 with 248k KM (154k miles) and pretty much as base model for $5500. So I figured I would go check it out cause I was looking for a Toyota 4x4 at the time. The guy drove it to my house for me to look at it and after that I told him I would think about it. Anyways the next day the guy was leaving the country for a business trip and wanted it gone before he left so I made him an offer for $3900 and he accepted! Here is what it looked like the first day I bought it.
The first mods I did were removed the running boards and installed some HID projectors that I bought off here.
The 4runner stayed that for a couple months while I decide what the next mods I wanted to do. I got sick of seeing some many 4runners with the split spoke wheels like I had so I hoped on craigslist in search of some new wheels. I found a guy selling some 17" FJ wheels that had been painted black for $150 and some used 265/70/17 BFG All Terrains for $200 so I snagged those up.
Summer time came around and with temps out reaching of 100+ was making my AC work over time so I decide to get my windows tint with 5% all around
After riding around on the stock suspension for a while I got tired of the front end being so bouncing and after all it did have 160K miles on it. On Tacomaworld I came across a kid selling some Donahoe/Icon coilovers for $400. The coilovers sat in my garage for over a month while I collect a few other parts like 231mm tundra brakes and a color matched front bumper since the Texas sun had turned mine from black to grey. SamSter0077 was having a wrenchathon over at his house for New Years so I us and couple guys from TTORA installed my coilovers and brakes. Wow what a difference those brakes made. Also after suffering a couple of flat tires with the All Terrains I picked up 5 of some 255/75/17 BFG Muds with 98% for $400.
Next I installed a Spintech Prostreet muffler but it was only on the truck for 2 days. It was way too loud for me so I took it off and put an 18" magnaflow in its place.
My final mod was putting in a system which consisted of a Focal Red 1 amp (500w) and a focal 10" woofer
So about a month later I came up with the brilliant idea to get rid of the 4runner to get a car. The next day I put it up for sale on craigslist and with 5 hours I had a deposit on it. Anyway fast forward a year and half I move to California to take care of my grandmother who lives right next to Pismo Dunes. I had come on the site every once in a while to see whats going on with everyone but in the back of my head I know I wanted to get another 4runner. I ended up picking up a 99 Tacoma 4x4 that I only had for 2 months because it was killing my knee to drive a stick which is from a car accident I was in a couple years ago. So I sold the Tacoma and started my search for a 4runner. After 2 months I had no luck what so ever until I came across a thread of a fellow member looking to buy one also and in the thread PBColt had mentioned he would be selling his soon. Since he was local I PMed him and after that we were able to make a deal. I actually picked up my dream 4R 99 Limited IJM with an E locker. I have had the rig for a little over a month now and couldn't be happier. A couple days after I bought it I couldn't wait to go out to the dunes and test out the 4wd.
Only mod I have done so far to it is added a Scangauge.
