Photo Comparison $34 LED bulbs off Ebay

All good suggestions. However, the way I tell if they work, is by my daily driving experience. No one has ever flashed me thinking my headlights (with the LED bulbs) was too bright. As far as putting LED’s into a headlight that was somehow limited to any improvement; as demonstrated by the; “You combined 2 things that were never intended to work as one.” Well, (surprise) they do work and they work well.

I guess a good analogy would be that no one ever “intended” to move away from a hot-ass filament light bulb, but with LED technology (i.e. using an LED light bulb in a lamp at home) low and behold, the LED lightbulb in a lamp at home works quite well, uses less electricity and puts off a brighter light…..whether it was “intended” is not the point……whether it works (or not) with a clearly distinguishable level of improvement…really is THE POINT…..just saying…..

I do not question people on this forum as to their decisions to try something new. If you try something new and it works (or is an improvement) GOOD FOR YOU! If your attempt at "new things" does not work, there is a lesson in that.

I do not adhere to some archaic mind-set that trying something new is a bad thing. Searching for something “new and improved” is the key to innovation and I for one, am ALL ABOUT innovation!

Right on and make sure you just focus on yourself. Really anybody else can go to hell if it works out ok for you.

Hey here is an innovative idea, just ignore stop signs. Think about how much faster you can get around. To hell with the dead people, you innovated.

I meant the part about others flashing at you - lack of flashing by others is not evidence of lack of blinding of others (apologies to Donald Rumsfeld).

OK.....so why do people flash each other? Isn't it usually because they feel someone has their high beams on? Following that logic, if no one flashes you, are they just flashing you for fun? As no one has flashed me, I am assuming they are either "no fun" or they have "no reason" to flash me as my LED's are not blinding them.....which one is it exactly? Please educate me....

Wow...typical....move to a ludicrous extreme and ignore logic. (Implying I approve of people dying.....pretty sick dude) Imply that "ignoring stop signs" is a good thing for ole ignorant conservatives like us....sweet man.....nice diversion. I simply asked for the parameters you needed for "proof" and you swerve that old vehicle (probably a 1970's Volvo plastered with "peace" stickers.....) off into the ditch.......kinda like Hillary blaming everyone (except herself) for her loss......

Personally, I'm just impressed how much you can pull politics into an LED headlight thread.

Despite the glare in the photo, I never have anyone flashing me because of the glare.

Several times I've been blinded and had to slow down to avoid not seeing what's in front of me because of LED's such as this. And I never flash my lights at that driver no matter how annoying and inconsiderate I find it.

Here in California there was a gang initiation taking place several years ago. The initiation was to drive with their high beams on and shoot at the first driver that flashed their high beams back. I never forgot it. Watch the news. People are getting killed over lame road rage incidents that derive from stupid things like this. Do us all a favor and switch out the lights. Just because you act like an idiot and no-one tells you that you're an idiot...doesn't mean that you're not an idiot. That's a very sophomoric response. i.e. nobody has ever flashed me back

But Bengazi.

He means this, it shows the pattern

How long have you been driving with the new LEDs? I'd give the oncoming driver test at least a few weeks before drawing conclusions about how the oncoming drivers are reacting.

The photo, while not a scientific comparison, and without accounting for the aim adjustment of the individual headlights on either vehicle, still suggests that more light is coming out of the led-equipped vehicle.
However, just because the light looks brighter and more
glare-ridden in the photo does not mean that oncoming drivers are necessarily being tortured or blinded.

The ultimate satisfaction would come if these inexpensive bulbs turned out to be just as good or better than the expensive 'name brand' LED bulbs.
It'll be interesting to see how long they last. At $34, that's about list price for a pair of normal halogens, or a bit more than halogens purchased at discount.

^^ This. In addition to the gang story that we here in LA are well familiar with, I also don't bother to flash the lifted pickup truck idiots with their HID equipped reflectors and driving lights because a) I'm too busy looking away so as to not drive off the road and b) I am well aware that usually their lights are misaligned or just plain unfocused, and that if I flash my brights they'll just flash their misaligned HID brights at me and completely blind me. It's just not worth it.

Like I said, don't take the lack of being flashed at as proof that you're not blinding others.

I don't bother beaming people with brighter than normal headlights either.

It's not worth it and every once and a while the person beams you back with 2 suns worth of candle power and leaves me seeing spots. I just grin and bare it till there past. No sense in two people not being able to see if I beam back.

It is getting annoying how often it's been happening to me in the last couple of years. In the winter the only time I'm on the road is at night.

Sometimes folks will have a heavy load in the rear of their vehicle, tilting the headlights upward. Most vehicles, including the 3rd gen 4Runner, have headlight adjustments that are poorly thought out and therefore troublesome to quickly re-aim, that it's not worth it to readjust for a temporary heavy load, and then immediately readjust again once the load is gone.

Well that was interesting.. lol I have leds and people flash me at least once a week whether it's my glare or they're too high. Cops never say anything when they pull me over. Normally it's just cause my light bars aren't covered that are above a certain height. [emoji12]

So, basically you know you’re being a d*ck but don’t care.

specific to your state
2006 Alabama Code (Section 32-5-240) — Required lighting equipment and illuminating devices of vehicles.
2006 Alabama Code (Section 32-5-242) — Requirements as to head lamps and auxiliary driving lamps

(c) Use of multiple-beam road-lighting equipment

1. Whenever a driver of a vehicle approaches an oncoming vehicle within 500 feet, such driver shall use a distribution of light, or composite beam, so aimed that the glaring rays are not projected into the eyes of the oncoming driver. The lowermost distribution of light or composite beam shall be deemed to avoid glare at all times, regardless of road contour and loading.
1. The head lamps shall be so aimed that, when the vehicle is not loaded, none of the high-intensity portion of the light shall, at a distance of 25 feet ahead, project higher than a level of five inches below the level of the center of the lamp from which it comes, and in no case higher than 42 inches above the level on which the vehicle stands at a distance of 75 feet ahead.

3770 Divide the lumens rating by 12.57 = 300 candle power

I will come down and buy you a steak dinner once trump is impeached.

The original photo is proof of the glare, and if you don't believe that, then you don't know how headlights OR a camera work.
