I did a mod today but not to my truck...it's actually a mod to my build thread!
I added a Chapter Selection to the front page so it's easy to find a specific mod and jump passed all the praise and jealousness (ahemDuhockeycough) :lol:
I also got the LED dash set up, well sort of...
I had to order a few more bulbs, gonna get them in this weekend...then I gotta work out a few hot spots that are bothering me. I ended up doing the gauges in white and everything down the center in red. I think I'm gonna change the middle dial (cold/warm/hot) to a white bulb so the blue and white still show up blue and white. Once I get it all worked out and finalized I'll post a pic

LINY4RUNNER, I have been lurking here at t4R for awhile and subscribed to your thread some time back. Great looking 4R, keep up the work.
The chapters you added to the front page is awesome. I wish every build page was like that. It needs to be a feature built into the forums. Thanks for taking the time to do this, great reference.

Now man up and SAS this fawkin thing! Your gunna need it to keep up with the one ton xj! .!..!.
Who needs a solid axle when you have 3/16" thick skid plates to drag over everything?
The real question is this- can your 1 ton XJ still fit in the parking garage at the mall? :trophy:

LED Interior- INSANE Hot Spots
Here's the list of what bulbs I used and for what purpose:
3x- Neo Wedge 4mm (HVAC Controls)
2x- Neo Wedge 3mm (ECT/Defrost/Rear Window Button
3x- 74 (Shifter/Keyring/Cig Lighter)
3x- 24 (Gauges)
2x- 74 (Hilux Surf Field Monitor)
{Keep in mind this is for 01-02, 96-00 may differ}

Combating the Hotspots
I used some crafty methods to fix the hotspots;
This Is the ECT button- it has a sort of clear plastic column in it that directs the light to the lettering, but it doesn't channel the light to fill the entire button- so I wrapped the four sides in tin foil- while leaving the ends open:
For the HVAC controls the hotspots were caused by the direct light from the LED, so I blocked the top of the bulb with a small piece of tin foil, and surrounded the bulb with scotch tape to help dispurse the light evenly:
These are the bulbs from the gauges. I again used tin foil, I shaped it like a U over the top of the bulb to, again, block the direct light- but still allow light to escape the sides. I then wrapped it in scotch tape as such:

LED Dash- Completed!
Here's the interior all together after killing off the hotspots;
I also ordered LED strips to retrofit the lenses on the TJM...
I used FIPG(what the fawk else would I use?! :lol
to secure the new strip in the housing
and then I sealed off the lens with....yup, you guessed it!
Installed!

sometimes it take a fresh set of eyes :bigok:
now get out there with some tin foil and scotch tape and eliminate those hot spots! :guitar2:

How about foil duct tape--the high temp stuff they use right at the furnace? It would stick all by itself. Not cheap, but a small roll comes in handy for other stuff.

I had them doubled at first for a darker red, but you could barely see the clock- even at night! So I took one of the layers out and walla!

Got my Jeep Recovery Device in this weekend! Stay tuned because I got my taxes and it's ALL going into Summer.
Winch is a Smittybilt XRC8- came with 94ft cable, 12ft remote, fairlead and winch cover for $300 shipped! This is the best deal if you're looking to pick up a winch. Many guys will say, "if you're really stuck 8000lb isn't gonna be enough", but if you use a snatch block (as I plan to) it doubles the pulling power anyways! Enough of the talkin'- here's the pics!
An extra 100lbs in the front gave me some of my rake back! The front actually rides a little smoother now- likely because I have the heavy 882 coils in the front, and finally the weight in the front matches the rating on the coils. Glad I have these and not a lighter set.....
Thought you guys would get a kick out of this- my girlfriend got a full-time live-in nanny job...basically they hired her to be their oldest daughter- gave her a fully furnished, central air, 500+SF apartment...why can't I find a job like that?! Anyways, being she's a chick, he's got alot of sh!t...so we packed out the Runner. Bear in mind- this is only about 70% of her stuff :lol:
Oh...and I'm going today to pick up the one thing I've wanted for the entire 4.5 years I've owned my truck. Check back tonight to see what it is! :bigok:

You didn't reclock your winch? Do you have room between the body and the bumper to reach in there to engage the motor?
