pics of 6 1/2" rear speaker install - 3rd gen?

Does anyone have a writeup, pics or specs for installing 6 1/2" speakers in the rear doors of a 3rd gen? I've found plenty to know that it is difficult task and i've seen the threads about installing 5 1/4" speakers.

1) strongly suggest you use the link in my signature for "how to" do a proper advanced search on T4R.

2) it is actually quite easy if you a tiny bit brave.

* go with 6.5" speakers
* with the panels removed, cut the metal so as to widen the hole.
* drill small holes where the new screws will go.
* install

That sounds like an easy install but a couple of questions. What would you cut the metal with and also would you run spacers or some sort of adapter for the speakers?

you would probably get more traction if you posted in the 3rd Gen section.

just be sure to put 3rd Gen in your post so it isn't moved.

it will be much easier to just eyeball it and do the cutting once you have the door panel removed and new speaker in your hand.

There are not a lot of threads on doing a 6.5" speaker install. Here is what I found.

i run 6.5 in the rear doors and the sound great with my type x components in the front i run 100 watts to each door.

Yes. I have have 2 brand new sets of Polk 6.5" speakers from my previous vehicle that never got installed. Can't beat free nice speakers.

PICS - Alpine Head Unit, Amp & Infinity Kappa's


Today I would like to talk about a few Stereo Mod's I've done. I put these speakers in over 2 years ago but last week I had my door panels off and thought I would take some pictures.

The panels are really easy to remove for anyone who hasn't done it before.

I needed a new stereo because my beloved 2003 Alpine MP3/CD Radio finally died last month. *It is pictured below

I ended up buying a really kick-@ss used Alpine MP3/CD Premium Head Unit on EBAY for $200. *It has a born on date of 2005

New Stereo Upgrade

1. Sound Deadening Mod - Roofing Material

2. Alpine Stereo CDA-9835

3. Infinity Kappa 6.5 Component Set

4. Alpine 75W RMS x 4 AMP

5. Ran new 14 (or 16g?) wires from the amp under the seat to all 4 doors (this is highly recommended by me)

Here is my new (used) Alpine 9835 MP3/CD Head Unit. I cannot stress enough how much of a difference the 4V pre-out, 109db signal to noise ratio and the TILT feature make this thing awesome. Bought on ebay for $109 + $99 for a new faceplate.

Take off your front door panels. Drive around for 2 days. Is the rattle still there? I nighly doubt it is the sound deadoning material.

I don't have any sound deadening material. I was asking if after installing the components you had any rattles and if so, did the sound deadening solve the issue? Thanks

I got the Polks installed about 2 weeks ago. Here is a picture of the front door. I dont have a picture of the back doors yet.

The rears took forever. I got the 6.5" speakers to fit, but I also had to attack the door with the dremel tool and cut out a good bit of metal to move the speaker down and toward the rear of the vehicle.

Has anybody done any fiberglass or cut into the panels? I needed some serious spacers for my hertz speakers and they rattle the door every so often. thought of doing a 6.5, 4" pair in the front with 6.5s or 5.25s in the rear
