Picture Request: 285s on Trail Edition Rims

Dirt King UCA's with the Heim Joints. My best guess would be the techs talent or GAS factor. I was very clear that I would likely require more than 4 degrees of castor. The tech found a balance.

Your STT Pros look great. How's the ride and mpg hit with the E rating?

Thank you. The ride is stiff but I've only driven it about 50 miles since the install a month ago. Not enough miles to give ya a reasonable mileage #, sorry.

Hey Gang, thinking of removing my Spidertrax to eliminate some of the rubbing but I'm wondering about the new potential to rub on my Total Chaos upper arms. I have stock Trail/Off Road rims and 285 Duratracs. Are any of you non-wheel spacer guys rubbing or close to rubbing on your aftermarket UCA's?

Are you guys plastidipping your wheels or painting black? Im nervous to plastidip as i have done a few things on the runner already with it and have some chipping

I went with plastidip.

Word of advice: you have to use a lot, if you want it to be durable. I used a can on each wheel, and then I used plastidip clear coat to keep it from fading in the uv and its held up just fine.

Keep in mind, it will get thrashed if u play in mud or sand, and it doesn't do well with petroleum based tire cleaners.

no, but I did mask it off, and I rubbed the overspray off the tires.

Old thread revival

The spacers will cause more rubbing on the inner fender liner and body mount area. The JBA UCAs seem to be very wide where the chevy style ball joint mounts to the flat stock. That, and alignment seem to be your potential issues.

I have the same issue you do rubbing on the UCA. My alignment is 4.5D and closer to 5.0P so I don't think its a alignment issue. Did you ever get your tire off the control arm?

Has anyone changed out their gear sets (ring n pinion). How's the overall performance w that size tire? I noticed when I installed the 275's I lost some schwoop.

This is an awesome thread. I have a 2017 Off-Road Premium, and I want to run BFG 285/70R17 A/T KO2s. I was on the fence about buying after market wheels until I saw this thread. It looks like the stock 17x7.5" wheels can definitely accommodate 285 tires. I would rather spend the $700 on a good set of rock sliders instead. I will report back once I have them installed.

This thread really has me thinking of running 285's. I notice one needs to run a lift for them. Would a 1"cornfed spacer up front suffice? I want to run Bilstien 6112/5160's at 1.75/1, but that is a few months out. Was thinking of getting the spacer in the meantime. Would that work to accommodate the 285's?

u wont know until you try it. Some people get by with 285's and no lift. Others, required a lift to run 285's, and then there are the weirdo's like me, who ran 285's with no lift, then it started to rub after I lifted the truck.

Hi Jason [MENTION=137794]JasonKoko[/MENTION]. Since you have been running your 285s with Spidertrax for a couple of years, had any issues? I just got my 285s put on factory wheels yesterday, but my installer is very hestant to put on “them dang spacers”. He clearly doesnt like them and believes they cause a geometry/wheel stress issue that could be catastrophic at the wrong time. Id enjoy your experience/rhoughts on this. Also, I have the Daystar 2.5/1.5 kit on my truck, as well. Thanks!

Just what I don’t want to hear.

Any one running 285 Terra grapplers or Open Country AT II want to share what MPG they are getting? Those tires are quite appealing becauseof there weight to me.
