Pilot rock trail run Sunday 1/25/15

I'm planning a run up pilot rock truck trail next Sunday the 25th. Anyone who wants to join is welcome. So far the weather looks nice and warm for next weekend, so snow shouldn't be an issue.

I may be able to make this run. I'll let you know towards the end of the week or by Saturday. I'll be out in Ontario area on Saturday. I might stay the night out there so I can head up there since it's closer for me that way. We shall see.

I may be able to swing this too. Let me check with the boss. How do you communicate while driving. I only have FRS walkie-talkies at this moment or cell phone.

I usually use 2 way radios since it works for most people. I also have a cb and 2m ham.

I've never done this trail before, but from what I've read it is set up a lot like cleghorn. The main road can be done with a stock 2wd. I plan on checking out some of the side trails which can be range from moderate to insane. ill only go for the ones that I know I can do with out damage, or bypass it on the main trail. If anyone else has done this run before, feel free to chime in.

I would like to go, is the trail hard? I have never been "off-roading" before. Drove on Road To Rincon before, but that's about it. The car is completely stock, 4WD no locker.

Do you have atrac? Either way there at 2WD bypass roads through most of the stuff out there.

I was part of the second group on this run. We split into the difficult and the easy runs. I just had my lift installed and this was my second offroad run so I went easy. If I remember right a couple of guys broke cv axles during the difficult runs and had to be pulled back to the staging area. This was about 3 years ago since I've been here.

This is how you break an axle at pilot rock not to scare anyone. When your front wheel starts doing what his truck does, this can lead to potential problems. In this guys case it became a problem.

Yes, this was the guy who broke his front drive axle on that trip. If anybody recalls he was from Outdoor Logic, he had open/open diff and he spun his tire way to much. Once those tires get instant traction then you may end up with a broken drive axle. This trail is very doable in stock form when its dry. 3-4 year ago a guy tipped his 2nd gen.

That guy should of stopped beating up his truck and tried a different line. The guys with A-trac won't have a problem with cv axels breaking.

Im down to do some harder stuff. The only thing holding me back is my stock skids right now. But a good spotter over the hard stuff should get everyone though without any damage. It doesnt look like a long trail so we can take it slow so everyone gets though. I'll be doing a lot of filming on this trip. I'm bringing 3 gopros and a dslr. With everyone going it should be a awesome video.
