Pinch Protection - 2010 Limited

Hey Guys,
I didn't see a previous thread on this, and so I'm trying to see if anyone else has seen this. Recently, my 4runner has been having issues with the pinch protection system. When I roll down my drivers window, sometimes it won't roll up auto. It stops halfway like something's there. It doesn't do it every time. I've also noticed a similar thing happening with my moonroof. It also doesn't close consistently, again, like something's in the way. I saw it last night on my rear hatch window. I'm looking thru Nashman's awesome manual trying to find a way to reset this system, but I don't see anything. The dealer serviced my truck a few weeks ago, and they disconnected the battery when they did. I'm thinking the system needs to be reset. I've got an appointment with the dealer on monday to have them check this out, it's like every window with pinch protection is malfunctioning but it doesn't do it every time. Just curious what other's have seen.

Is anything else happening while you are rolling up windows? I.E. passengers exiting the vehicle? I've had my pinch protection systems engage on various windows if I"m rolling the window up and the passenger is also shutting the door. I've even had my drivers window roll up only half way after one of my friends slammed the door on the passenger side BACK seat, lol.

Nothing at all. In fact, I had opened the moonroof on my way in to work today. I was parked, in the garage here at work, and trying to close it. I about never got it to close. I couldn't even hold down the button and FORCE it to close. It kept stopping. It was starting to piss me off to be honest.

I know this would be more likely if it were only one window doing it, but have you tried running a q-tip or something through the channel in the weather stripping to make sure there's no debris or anything in there? I don't know how sensitive the system is, but it might be worth a quick shot just to make sure.

Ah, thanks man. I guess I didn't see it, but there are quite a few PDF's to scan. Which ZIP is that in? lol I'm digging, at least I have a header to PDF search on.

Probably not the answer you are looking for but I came across something similar the other day...if the window lock button is pressed in, no windows work (including rear and sunroof) except the driver's. I had my sunroof open on the way to work and had accidentally (I guess) pressed the window lock button and when I got to work I couldn't close the sunroof. Finally figured it out...but only after a few f-bombs...lol. Good luck.

Yeah, I doubt that's the problem too. Worth doing before you take it in to the dealership though. Last thing you need is a lazy tech finding some dirt and blaming that then closing out the job.

Damn Gremlins! You will have to "BURN" your vehicle to the ground and buy a new one. Once infested, there is no return.......be safe.

check the RM html version not the pdf one....it's in both, just the html is sooo much easier to use.

Yesterday my sunroof wouldn't close. I finally got it to close by inching it closed bit by bit. It opens fine, but when you hit the close button it gets almost closed and then opens back up. I tried holding down the deflector from above to see if that was the issue and it didn't seem to solve the problem.

Kinda concerned as this is the reason that we had to lemon law our old Saab. They could never figure out the sunroof and when a cylinder blew we used the 3 tries at repair on the sunroof and got our money back. That POS was a lemon, don't think the T4R is......

Worst part is the stinking dealer can't get it in until next week. The sunroof was a major part of the decision to buy and it is awesome to have at this time of year.

My issue went away after I "power cycled' the truck. (that's to say turned it off and back on again). I haven't seen it occur since.

Bummer.....well for me, good for you! I tried it a couple of times yesterday after stopping and letting it rest. Didn't dare try today on the way to work. Maybe tonight when I can put it back in the garage in case it won't close at all.
