Pioneer 9" DMH-WT7600NEX Floating Display Installed: First Impressions w/OEM Audio+

So two questions, first, how's this hold up on rough roads? Any risk of breaking off?

And second, anyone figured out if there's an option for 2022s yet? Something changed between 21 and 22, both harness and software. I even contacted maestro and they said they don't have support for the 22's yet.

Entune just sucks. They even dumbed down CarPlay itself...you can't see all your playlists.

It won’t move on rough roads. No wiggle, no vibration. It’s very solidly attached.

Installed the 10" 8600NEX this past weekend. Definitely want to use OEM metal brackets because the plastic Metra brackets will not hold it in place. Was able to do so, and use the screws supplied w/the radio and the plastic metra brackets, w/out drilling new holes.

CAR A/V Assist App is trash, but I was prepared for that.

Had screen flicker at first, which resolved after a firmware update. Wireless carplay is nice, but I do get frequent, brief "skips" in audio. From what I can tell, this is not unique to this unit, it's a problem with wireless carplay in general. Haven't tried to connect through wire to see for myself but I hear this resolves any skipping issues.

On that note, the unit comes equipped with USB-C cable, but no convenient way to wire this into your existing 4runner ports. My old USB/Aux port is now dead. If someone has an easy way to convert this into a new port for the USB-C cable, I'd love to hear it. (I don't have a 3d printer or C&C so something relatively easy DIY, or off-the-shelf would be perfect)

Overall audio quality is significantly improved. I didn't realize just swapping the head unit could be so impactful on the sound volume and clarity, but it is.

Loss of GPS and Sirius - I never used Sirius, so I can't speak on losing the functionality. I tried using the old GPS once and it was so bad I decided waiting to get into cell reception was the better route. That said, I wish it included GPS just as a fallback.

Rearview camera - it looks like ass on the new screen. If anyone is aware of a way to upgrade the rearview without too much hassle, I'm all ears.

Overall, it's a gorgeous addition and it looks very clean and OEM. Will report back after a few weeks to let you all know if I encounter any more issues.

8600NEX installed for about 2 weeks now and so far enjoying the updated tech in this old pig

sound quality with stock speakers is greatly improved, wireless apple carplay has worked great with fast boot up/connection, a lot of other cool features but these were the two I was really looking for

mounted in lower din, may adjust the height 1 more notch down.

with the 10.1" screen in the lower position does it block the hvac controls? Did you adjust it again? Im in between the 10.1" or 9" , dont want to block the HVAC vents nor control but may consider it if finding a sweet spot.

I have not adjusted it since the photo. From the drivers perspective it does block some visibility to the controls. I've had the truck long enough I don't have to look at them to know what they do, but some would find it bothersome.

I don't think you'd be disappointed going with the 9" over the 10" for a more precise overall fit.

You can kind of see in the picture it is still blocking the lower slot of the vents. I could, and with summer coming likely will, move it down one more notch to fully expose the vents, which in turn will block visibility of the controls a little more.

thx for the info that is what I'm considering. Curious to how much itll block the hvac controls and if you would even have space with it down another notch. Basically avoid touch the top of knob completely and using the sides only.

the unit sits out from the dash ~1"+ and has tilt adjustment as well, so it won't be physically touching or inhibit use of the hvac controls if you move it down a notch, it will only block visibility of the controls more.

big things happening in Pioneer world, I finally updated software to v3.0 from something like v1.3

now 2 rows of 5 apps vs the previous 4!

I’ve found that wireless CarPlay is pretty unstable as I drive down the road. It’ll suddenly drop out, which is pretty jarring when you’re listening to music at high volume.

I have that issue as well and commands lag like early bluetooth. In the end the unit is just meh and will be the last Pioneer car audio product I purchase.

Any of you owners running an ICS mount with this setup? I'm wondering if it's sturdy enough to continue to hold the accessories I have mounted with the OEM headunit. Given that the aftermarket trim piece that you mount the ICS to doesn't seem to bolt on like the OEM setup.

I do but I have the unit on the factory metal mounts so the bezel is just clipped in using the standard fasteners. The mount doesn't move but I haven't really been offroad.

Thanks super helpful. With the OEM headunit the ICS mounts on the plastic trim but that is also attached to the bolted on headunit itself. With the aftermarket setup the trim piece that you are using is only attached via clips. So I'm guessing it is not as sturdy.

The reason im asking is that I usually hang an Ipad off that ICS mount while offroad. With the OEM setup it is plenty sturdy but I don't think that will be the case with a setup like this. I guess the ultimate goal would be to use nav apps off your phone anyways.
