First thing: I don't own a 4 runner but my GF does. I'm very impressed with the quality of the vehicle as it has twice as many miles as my Nissan and seems to be in better shape than my Titan. I love working on the 4 Runner as well and love the location of the oil filter.
I'm going to get my GF a new head unit for Christmas. She has an '03 SR5 with RDS (non JBL). I'm pretty sure I'll go with the Pioneer AVH-P4300DVD.

I'll include the navi and bluetooth. I've done car audio installations before with cd players, subs, lighting etc but never a head unit of this complexity. Has anyone installed this unit with the steering wheel controls? Where is the best place for the Ipod plug? Are there any pictures of the installation with different dash kits? I've found mixed information on different kits. Also, where have people installed the navi unit?
Anyway, I'd appreciate any information on the installation process and if I will need a custom harness for the installation. Any other information would be great. Thanks for the help in advance and I'll be sure to post pics of the process and finished product. Thanks
