Pioneer AVIC-D1 on 4th Gen

There is very little lighting on the AVIC-DI outside of the screen. what is there is not amber, but it does not look out of place. The lights are the buttons are very dim.

There are 2 PAC Steering wheel interfaces that you can buy. One is a hard wire and one uses infrared. I got the hard wire one. It was very easy to install and program. There is however, a slight delay when you hit the button. As far as the Sirius tuner, I can change the stations but due to the programming I cannot change the presets. I think you can only program the presets to change track or presets but not both. That is the next thing I have to look into.

If you look at the second and third pics that I posted, you can see that there are only two buttons in which stand out. Those are the darkest buttons on the unit and they are blue. The others are lite in a very dim blue. I did change all the lights on the center console to blue LEDs. The only amber on the center console is on the the heat/ac controls... the triangles that show what is on.
 
How has the GPS been? Mapping work well? Is the D1 the one that you have to pull over and put the car in park to put in a new address? Do you have Navtraffic, if so, how is that?

Finally, for directions, can you put in a phone number of a business and get directions that way?

Oh, last q, did you install yourself or pay some place to do it? If you paid, do you mind saying how much?

- I was having problems with the GPS until I mounted the antenna on the roof of the car. Once I did that, the GPS became very accurate.
- There is a way to make it so that you can enter an address without stopping the car. Click on the link to find the instructions on how to bypass the parking brake and make it work (Link to Pioneer Hack). By doing this you also can watch dvds while the car is in motion (Need to hook up a dvd player to the D1). My brother hooked up a slim PS2 unit to the D1 and is able to have his passengers play games or watch movies while he drives. That is my next project.
- My brother has the Navtraffic and he loves it. It only works in major cities and the surrounding areas but being that I live in the New York City area it works fine. I also intend on getting that and having both Sirius and XM Navtraffic.

Finally, for directions, can you put in a phone number of a business and get directions that way?

- The instructions indicate that you can search by telephone number but I haven't tried that feature yet.

Oh, last q, did you install yourself or pay some place to do it? If you paid, do you mind saying how much?

- I end up installing it myself. It's not hard to install the unit, just very time consuming. It took me about 5 or so hours to install the unit and to run the wire for the antenna to the rear roof of the car.

Yes I did. It took me about 5 hours to do the complete install. That includes putting in a PS2 in the center console for movies.

Thanks. I was thinking to have an installer to install, but now I want to try it by myself.

Do you have the repair manual? How do you take off the panel and stuffs....? Is that possible you have a write up? I think everybody want that too.... :D :D

Where exactly you put your antenna? Any pictures?

Any other HINTS or cautions for this installation?

I don't have a write up or pictures but this weekend I can write up how to pull the panels off as well as take some pictures. I will also tell you how I ran the wires for the antenna. My antenna is located on the rear roof of the car.

BTW, do you (or anyone) has the wiring diagram, plug diagram from the Toyota Service manual? And if possible, the diagram and procedure for dissemabling the panel....

Sorry I didn't post a write up yet. Saturday turned out to be a very busy day for me because I had to leave Sunday for a business trip. I'm actually in North Carolina right now. I will try to get to it this weekend if the weather is good. Sorry again.

go buy a wiring harness and install kit form best buy. Then, the pioneer will come with the corresponding wire colors. Attach them, and your on your way!

Do you mean Scosche Retail Harness?? That's what I could find in my local bestbuy. Do you have the exact part number? That helps a lot.... :D

I actually had a shop install mine. They did it under the dash and haven't had one problem with accuracy.
