Pioneer Double-Din Shopping List

So I am planning on installing a double-din Pioneer head unit once I have all of the pieces, I've ordered a few of them already, just wanted to confirm some of these components and get some input from the guys that have done this already.

This is what I've gathered from other threads, I'm trying to maintain steering wheel control as well as the diversity antenna arrangement for optimal reception.

1. Pioneer AVH-P8400BH head unit
2. Steering wheel adapter - Metra ASWC Auto Sensing Steering Wheel Cntrl Intrfc
3. Wiring Harness (JBL) - PAC TATO Toyota JBL Interface
4. Bestkits.com trim bezel - SearchResults
5. Antenna Adapter 1 - Metra 40-UV43 (met-40uv43) Male to Two Female Universal Antenna
6. Antenna Adapter 2 - Metra 40-GM10 (met-40gm10) Factory Antenna to Aftermarket Radio
7. Ebay parking brake bypass - found a random automatic "micro" bypass. (any suggestions on this one? recommendations? I already ordered it, seems like it will do the trick)

Am I overlooking anything? or are there any upgrades to the parts I have listed?

I've read that I can use those antenna adapters to plug my antenna wires into my Pioneer head unit then I just have to run power from the blue/white system remote wire on the Pioneer to the blue antenna wire on my toyota wire harness to run power to the "antenna booster" or whatever it is.

That sound about right?

1. Pioneer AVH-P8400BH head unit --Good choice Spend the money on the AVIC if you have it. I got a 130bt for $750
2. Steering wheel adapter - It works great. If you don't have the right side controls for voice and phone, add them as well
3. Wiring Harness (JBL) - PAC TATO Toyota JBL Interface -- Junk. Do yourself a favor and use the stereo outs and new amp
4. Bestkits.com trim bezel - I guess it is the best, but I still haven't got mine right. You will do a bit fo trimming
5. Antenna Adapter -- Personally I saw zero improvement. You need a new antenna and booster
6. Antenna Adapter 2 - Same as above
7. Ebay parking brake bypass - found a random automatic "micro" bypass. (any suggestions on this one? recommendations? I already ordered it, seems like it will do the trick) It will do what you need.

Not sure what is involved with adding this though, I'll have to look more into it, the parts guy at Toyota wasnt much help. Is it plug and play when using the steering wheel adapter mentioned in the previous post?

Sungod, I might replace the AMP and sub somewhere down the road, so at that point I will direct connect to the headunit outs. For now I'm just going to use the new headunit with the JBL system.
 
Most Dealer parts guys are not the most helpful. They have a set process they follow and don't like to deal with custom work. Their attitude is pretty much sell only what was put on.

Here are the part numbers for the controls:
1- Left Audio switch: 84247-35010-B0
1- Right Phone switch: 84244-35030-B0
1- Wire connecting two switches: 84204-58010
2- Mount bolt - W/cruise control - 9015950199
Airbag: 45130-35431-B0

As long as you have the left controls now all you need is the right switch and the connecting wire. It comes in right at $100 for the two. I wasn't sure it was worth it, but 6 months later I am glad I did. It is nice to answer and hang up calls without having to reach. If your new head unit doesn't have voice, you can program the button for something else.

Do you have an up close of the dash kit and the bezel?

How did your fish the wire for the microphone? Did you cut the wire or make the hole large enough to push the connector through?
 
Yeah, side controls might be a future addition, just wasnt in the budget for this project. I also need to add a satellite radio tuner (maybe) and definitely a back up camera.

The hole for the mic wire is exactly the same diameter as the wire to look as tidy as possible.

Here are some close ups, the top of the kit doesnt look perfect but the rest is really nice and the screen flips open nicely. This is the Metra 95-8210

Very nice install, the question that I have is, did you cut off the bluetooth mic wire to run that, and then resolder it?

Yep, you just have to be really careful that you don't add too much resistance to the wire when you resolder it, it's pretty thin.

There are probably easier ways to do that but I think this looks really clean, I'm trying to keep it as tidy as possible so I still have to work out the Iphone cable and the tomtom GPS cable. The Iphone cable just needs to be adjusted a bit because it's a pretty thick wire and it is making my glove box slightly more difficult to close, not a big deal, all you have to do is shut it a bit harder than usual. I'll try to hardwire the GPS in, maybe run the cable down through the center speaker.

the best kit looks very similar. I had to do some trimming to get mine to allow the face to open and close smoothly. I still don't have it in perfect. I will mess with it sometime before winter

Yeah the kits definitely take some work to get in there, but it is doable.

the only thing that bugs me is the space right above the head unit, they plastic in there has a wave in it.
 
I plan on buying a new one to get a little more aggressive on the trimming and cut that top part out which should allow me to move the HU up a little higher so it doesn't drag on the bottom. The problem with my Best kit is that the ventilation control/information display that goes in after you put the bezel on wont fit inside the dash kit. It looks like they didn't assemble the dash after they designed the kit.
 
Hey Red, I was looking into a double dinn Pioneer head unit as well and was wondering what does the parking brake bypass do?
