Plasti-dip stock TE wheels, anyone?

I just took the Countersteers off my 2013 TE and put the stock wheels back on with 285's (yes, they Countersteers are for sale).

I was going to powder coat them, but it became too much of a logistical nightmare and I flunked NY State inspection because my stock tires were bald, so I had to do something :redbrick:. My current plan is to Plasti-dip them. I've dipped other things, so I have pretty good idea of how it works, but am wondering if anyone has ever dipped stock TE wheel with a rattle can?

I was planning to take the wheels off the 4R, but some people including dipyourcar.com advised me to do it on the vehicle. Thoughts?

This poses some challenges, the first and foremost being, will it look stupid if the outside is black and the inside of the rim through the holes is factory grey?

Thought about putting it on jack stands (so the tires turn) and dipping the inside of the rim from the backside first, then doing the front.

Second challenge is, do I put the center-caps back on, or not? I kinda like the way it looks without them. Either way, how do I get dip back around the lug nuts and what happens if I have to remove a wheel - will the dip on the lug nuts get gacked?

IF I were to take the wheels off, what happens if you get dip on the mating surface between the lug and the wheel? When you put the lugs on, does it try to twist the dip on the wheel around the lug and gack it up?

Anyone have suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Don't rub it in, I agree Plasti-dip is gay, but it does a decent job and it's easy. Having worked in a body shop and built drag cars for several years, my first inclination was to paint or powder coat. It's just too logistically difficult to accomplish (strip/blast/properly coat) in upstate NY and my inspection expired with bald tires - I had to do something and stop procrastinating.

if i makes you feel any better, i put my truck up on jack stands and pulled all the rims/tires off, sanded, placed index cards primed and painted all in the span of about 3 hours and remounted them in the next morning. paint is still next to perfect a year and a half later. its no professional job, thats for sure - but it accomplished what i wanted, looks way better than plastidip and sure as hell cleans better and is easier to touch up.

personally I've never had much luck with removing plastidip (even sprayed on thick in several coats) and i lable everyone that uses it like its gods creation as a wiener

plastidip outsmarts some people. to take it off you grab and pull. keep trying one day you'll get it.

OP, you can plasti-dip then paint over it. That way if you don't like the paint just pull it off. Whats the difference?......I have no f'king idea since you're still plasti-dipping.
