Plastidip Blackout - Wheels / Rear Emblem

I have plenty of dip left, now I just have to find something to spray! Thinking about the front grill or some part of it but not sure if I'll like the look yet.
Maybe my front porch wrought iron rails or the dog? (jk)

So I'm thinking about plastidipping the front grille and the plastic piece under the grille in between the upper and lower grille. I like the look of the Trail but don't want to switch out the front end. $$$
Think this would look ok leaving the chrome trim piece and everything below alone? I realize I'll have to create a tape line in the crease of the running lights out to the chrome strip.
Anyone tried this yet...thoughts

its is hard to tell from your pictures....were you able to get good crisp lines around your center bumber piece ? I have seen a few guys wrap that area with vinyl and I have been contemplating the plasti-dip method. I am no stranger to the dip...but, i haven't dipped anything yet that required a tape line and didn't know how well that would turn out. did you just remove the tape while the dip was still wet? Any close-up pictures around the edges and/or some more insight about your process would be appreciated.
if i can get good results, i wanted to use this method to black out the fender flares as well...but they are integrated into the front and rear bumber, so it would require a tape line as well.

I was worried about the tape lines too but read up a little on it and as long as you pull the tape before its gets too dry you shouldn't have any issues. I hit it with about 6 coats but avoided spraying the edges near the tape until the last two coats. I hit the tape lines and edges with two coats only waiting a couple of min in between them and the pulled the tape while the edges were still wet. Worked like a charm!
A couple of edges had enough of a crease to where I just pulled the overspray up to the crease line. (The chrome trim strip and the daytime running lights)
I'm not sure how much the tape has to do with the precision lines but I used the green frog painters tap that you can find at HD. It's supposedly designed for crisper lines and to prevent pulling up latex paints etc. Like I said, not sure how much this contributed over your normal 3M blue tape.
I also kept the dip hot under a heating pad on high which helped as far as the smooth texture.
I think you could easily dip the fenders, the hard part would be getting curved symmetrical lines with your tape.
Going to look like a poor man's Trail if you go all in!!

Dip seems to be holding up well, I've run it through the wash a few times to get the road salt off, no peeling or fading. The dipped surfaces shine up well with Armor All tire shine, no issues with it eating through the dip. All things considered, I'm very pleased with my $15 investment.
As this stuff is addicting, I'm thinking about blacking out the OEM roof rails. I will probably leave them on and just tape/plastic around them. It will just depend on whether I can get a full coat underneath the rails. The crossbars are already black so it should be a pretty quick project.
Anyone try this yet?

No, I haven't tried either yet. I did use Acetone, and it dissolves the dip almost instantly.
The OP is correct- the dip will peel right off as long as the surface is warm. When it's cold it pulls off in little pieces and just annoys the hell out of you! I figure I'll either:
A: Warm the garage up to 70 or 80 with my kerosene heater and peel the dip easily.
B: Wait until it get's warmer out.
C: Just use the acetone.
I've been completely gutting my garage and building a new workbench so I haven't had the time to mess with it.
Re-dipped the wheels after the dip got scuffed up when I had the new tires mounted. The dip has held up great in all conditions, front bumper included. Definitely a great project.

Thanks, they're Cooper ATPs (Load E) in the stock 265/7017 size. Much more tread than the stock Dunlops. These are only available through Discount Tire or shipped via Discount Tire Direct. They're very similar to the Cooper AT3s that are available most places but have a little more aggressive corner tread. Also the heavier E load. Picked them up for $698. Much thanks to [MENTION=55815]Okki[/MENTION] and @1E for their recommendations and research.
Thanks we have the same runner, of course minus tires and black rims. Nice looking ride. To bad it's my wife's and she won't let me Plato dip the stock wheels.

looks great! ive been thinking of doing my wheels at some point too - I did a bunch of the trim and even bought a can of red from dipyourcar.com for the side chrome strip...I think black would look good there too.
What about doing the roof rack? How about you do it so I can see how it will look?!

wow, I'm actually kinda pissed off how easy the plastidip looks. it took me probably 4 hours to remove/prepare/paint/reattach my rear badging. 5 months later, its all chipping (despite 5 coasts of colour and 2 of clear). Once the weather clears up here I am redoing it all with the 'dip
