While I don't have any experience with it yet myself, I do know that dipyourcar.com is based out of Miami and there is even one company similar to that here in Tampa that does the same (Can't remember the name right now). I would imagine that if heat was a problem they would find a different product to use. I've seen a few dipped cars around Tampa and they have all looked good.

Are you in FL? And do you have 5 bucks to spare? So why not find out for yourself :caked:
I forgot where I read it, but I believe plastidip holds up to ~300 degrees Fahrenheit, so I would imagine it should be just fine...people seem to dip their wheels without issue and those can get real hot after driving and braking a lot.
It is $7.99 at Home Depot lol I am going to give it a go was just curious if anyone experienced any fading with it. My rig sits out in the sun all day

I don't have any experience with hot sun and dipping, but I did black out all the chrome on my Ltd (including roof rack). If you haven't dipped before, then watch some of the vids on youtube and dipyourcar. when masking leave about 1.5 - 2in around the rear garnish, then mask off the entire back with paper. be very generous with the overspray onto the actual paint of the truck. you want to end with a nice thick layer (I did 8 coats 15 mins appart. i started with VERY light coats and gradually ended with thicker ones). the stuff peels off very easily, but stays nicely on the chrome. just take your time.
the chrome grill is very easy to remove. just a couple of screws and some plastic tabs.

Well now that you ask...
I think Stifler is referring to how it holds up to UV, not the heat so much- but I have comments for both.
I just peeled the front wing on my grill and resprayed it last week. It was looking a little chalky. Could have been caused by UV, but perhaps I didn't apply it thick enough (I usually only do 2 coats). If you looked close enough you could see tiny air pockets had opened up. The dip peeled very easily- like it's supposed to- and the repair took me all of 20 minutes and a couple hrs of dry time.
My wheels were a different story altogether. After almost 2 years on there and lord knows how many heat cycles, the dip wasn't as smooth as it originally was, and was very difficult to remove. Tiny piece by tiny piece came off while the curse words got bigger and bigger. The first wheel took 3 hrs. I tried a heatgun, which helped a little, along with Xylene which melts the dip away almost instantly- but again a tiny bit at a time.
Finally I read a post by [MENTION=83218]Vegas[/MENTION] (THANK YOU THANK YOU!!) about using a pressure washer at very close range. That did the trick- but the dip still came off in little pieces and it took another 3 hours, but this time for the remaining 3 wheels. Keep in mind that I sprayed the back of the wheel as well so there was a lot of surface to remove.
The good? After the dip was removed, my wheels look absolutely perfect (and they are for sale!) so the dip protected the finish wonderfully.
That's my experience with the dip. Yours may vary. I will continue to use the stuff because it's cool to work with.

If you do leave it on the truck, then I suggest masking behind it to prevent any over spray from going into the radiator and/or engine bay.
However, it takes less than 5 mins to pull off the chrome piece
Either way you'll be happy with the results. It's so dang easy to use!

I live in Yuma, AZ with 120ish during the summer, I haven't really noticed any problems with he Plasti-Dip. I'll let you know what happens when I peel the dip off the emblems in the back, I'm going to white them out vice the black (weird right?).

True statement. Pull the clips off the plastic guard above your radiator, then remove the front emblem and wing. PlastiDip them when they are removed, then you don't need to mask anything. It's a super easy removal process.

On my buddies car, we did the rims last summer, and after the winter they are starting to peel in spots. they are also not as nice looking as last year. Still look decent, but not close-up.
