Please help!

i took my 2010 4runner to the dealer ship today and got an oil change and a battery replacement. im not sure but the previous night the rear window might have been left open and it rained all of that night.. anyways on my way home the rear window started rolling itself down randomly and i was able to fight it by rolling it up with the switch but it would keep doing it...

when i got home i was able to roll it all the way up and turn on the rear wiper which kept it from rolling down and then i removed the wiper fuse which keeps the window up. i have searched many threads and any that have the same problem as me are much older models... i would appreciate any help, i need to get this fixed asap. thanks!::typing:

Remove the back trim and check for water on any of the electrical components back there before the water does some damage, if it hasn't done it yet.

Yes. Need to take off the back panel so you can physically/visually access the electronics and motor for the rear window

Hi davidoronshelton,

There's a "Multiplex network ECU" in the lower rear tailgate that manages the exterior lights, tailgate functions...etc. Make sure you remove the rear cover and dry the multiplex module and ALL electrical harnesses that you can to prevent any permanent damage. Best!

That's ingenuity right there, but now you might need to worry about melting the components.

Not a bad idea as long as it didn't get extremely hot back there, at least you were proactive about it.

There are a couple of screws holding the cover on (just look around) and then it snaps off; no big deal... it's been a while since I saw them.

Like rydr1 says: Be careful not to overheat the "Multiplex Compu" in the lower rear tailgate... it won't like too much heat and they are very expensive!

I would start with the most simple fix of all.... relearn the rear window motor. After the battery replacement the rear window may have been down. It needs to relearn the stop position. It's a safety feature that prevents children and drunk adults from pinching themselves in the window.
Don't quote me but I believe the procedure is key off, hold the button in the window up position, turn key on, wait 5-10 seconds, then release. Test it by shutting the truck off, turn it back on and check to see if the auto up and down function properly. It should recognize the auto window up position at this point.

finally was able to get to it... there was a bit of moisture in the hatch but it looked like the seal held up. just to make sure i dried everything off and put it back together. and it works fine! not really sure what happened, i just do not want it to happen again. thanks for all the help from everyone!:banana:

You gotta explain pic #2 brother. Did you take the entire lift gate off? I am stumped at looking at that pic and what it is showing.

sorry about that. no the lift gate is still attached to the truck, i took the inner hatch panel off so i could get to the Multiplex network ECU and dry it off and check for water damage... i did not see any
