Please post pics of HID lights (low beams and/or fogs) in the OEM light reflectors

Thanks Cookieroe and riceandpho. The bottom line is simple, take out the headlights and ship them out to one of the retrofitters.

I've tried locating some company here in Canada to do this, but have not had much luck.

In the meantime, I need to find some cheap temporary headlights to put on the truck.

What projectors did you guys go with? Morimoto? What about the shroud?

Did either of you get the retrofitters to do install LED's for DRL's in your retrofits? I've seen some guys on here with LED's installed on the headlight (on the outside) and after seeing something like that in person, I don't want to go that route. No offense to anyone but that looks kinda cheesy.

No worries on the Canadian retros fitters. To my knowledge, there aren't any that are popular. Lightwerkz has worked with customers worldwide. They are located in northern New Jersey. I've personally dealt with them. I even headed to their shop when I ran into issues. Great guys, very professional.

Cheap lights? No problem! Head to ebay and find some lights that fit your truck. I paid $90 shipped (give or take) for drivers & passenger. They look identical to the OEM ones, but quality is so-so. After about 1 week, one of my lens started to leak (fog up). But who cares, these are temporary.

I wanted to get bixenon (hi and low beam) so I went with Acura TL bixenon (are said to have the best pattern). Some like Infinity FXr bixenons, they are good too. Here's a breakdown on what I have:

2005 4R Limited:
Projectors: TL bixenon
Bulb: 4300K
Shrouds:Apollo (work nice with the 4R b/c they are big)
Ballast: Denso (good enough for Toyota/Lexus, good enough for me)
Heavy Duty harness with relay

2007 Civic EX:
Projectors: RX
Bulb: 4300K
Shrouds: Iris
Ballast: Lightwerkz (will be changing to Densos when the weather gets nice. Densos fire up faster. Also, Lightwerkz brand are said to be re-branded morimotos. They carry an 18 month warranty)
Standard wire harness with relay

Lightwerkz WILL install Angle Eyes IF you want them. I agree that LED lights mounted ON THE outside look incredibly cheesy. I kept everything stock (kept the amber reflector and didn't paint the headlight inner housing). I wanted it to look like it came from the factory. RiceandPho fabricated an LED strip ON THE INSIDE of the headlight lens. Actually looks very cool.

Are you f**king for real? I am blinded just by your picture. No one with any common sense would recommend HIDs in a reflector. The illusion of more light is just that, an illusion. Instead you get scattered light in all directions...works great if you are looking to see the birds and squirrles up up in the trees. Every time I see someone with your setup I get the urge to follow them untill they park their car, and then put a wrench through those lights. I strongly encourage you to do the right thing and stop trying to kill people with blinding lights on the road! :gun4:

For those of you who want to read. Reflector housings dont "scatter the light" like he claims, its a housing that PROJECTS light out in a even manner. PROJECTER headlights, put out light through a fixed convex lens focusing on that point. (every "k" will give off more/different light output). In some cases, aftermarket H.I.D's are worse in projectors (not enough light output) unless there Factory equipped ie. BMW etc.. Most cars on the road today that run H.I.D's dont have projecter housings anyway!


Wether H.I.D's are in a reflective or projecter housing, mostly all H.I.D's look the same when there comming at you! so s**k on that one bobdod04


To OP, its really your choice wether you want to upgrade to projectors, or keep the housings you have, regardless, get those H.I.D's!!!!

DO listen to cookieroe and riceandpho - they know of what they speak.

DO NOT install pnp HID in halogen reflectors. Reasons have already been posted. I been-there-done-that.

I had Lightwerkz do my 5G and my wife's CRV. Tad expensive, but Oh! the lights are da bomb!

@OP, do some studying on the HiDPlanet forum, and inform yourself from lighting and retrofitting experts. This thread is full of misinformation by owners justifying their use of incorrect lighting.

No i am not, I know the people at plasma garage. Am also very familiar with H.I.Ds of all types. I personally dont care for projecters. OR care to spend money on re doing my lights that are already bright enough as is with H.I.Ds. and are probably comparable to your fancy 1,000$ lights

But, I guess its hard to not piss people off when your runner is 7" taller then stock anyway.

But,
Regardless of what kind of lights you have, H.I.D's or not, the bottom line is, ALL lights give off glare!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! even your household lights do! ALL lights are gunna give off some type of glare! theres no way around it! wether its a little or alot, thats the point that matters. H.I.D's are not dangerous for others, if they were, they would be ILLEGAL!!!. I'm also 100% positive EVERYONE with H.I.D's in non projectors, are not a bunch of murrders out to kill people while driving, Just like me. In most cases, a good set of H.I.D's is around 100$ and WILL still get the same results of thousand $ retro fitted lights.

The OP wanted to know about H.I.D's in OEM lights, but this whole thread is turning into a war over something hees probably not looking into blowing 1 grand over re doing his lights. Your welcome for the pics before OP.

100% Agree. I gave up trying to inform those, then get bashed by people who aren't properly informed. Last time this happened, someone got (rightfully so) banned for 10 days in the 5th gen subforum. "sigh".............. There should honestly be a "sticky" on HID lighting.

Plasma garage looks alot like xenondepot. They want to SELL people their stuff. Fancy lights? I don't think they are fancy, they are functional and properly made. That comes at a price. A price I was willing to pay b/c I don't have the time to do it myself.

100% agree. Outside?? Wow, my memory is bad. They are honestly the best looking LED strips I've seen on a car/truck that don't come with them at the factory.

No, where'd you get $1000 from? Brand new OEM headlight assemblies are $225 each. 2006+ headlights have the projectors. Then an HID kit on top of that. I didn't look to see if you need anything else like different plugs for the bulbs or brackets though.
