Please School me In Dashcams

Using a Blackvue DR900S 2-CH and love it, can highly recommend Blackvue and BlackBoxMyCar. The headliner gap up front, the interior moldings and weatherstripping in our 4Rs are a dream for running the cabling. Only thing I had to do was loosen off the passenger A-pillar grip a bit to tuck the power cable and rear camera cable away nicely behind the top of the molding, then retightened but otherwise it was all just tucking cable away under the other moldings and weatherstripping.

I have been lookin at the BlackVue 2 channel set up but have been trying to figure out how I'm going to mount the rear camera. Can you please share how you have yours mounted.

There's a thing called the headliner button mod. I (and others) used the center headliner button to hold a piece of plastic fasioned out of a piece of thin, flat plastic with a hole drilled in it (through which the button goes, reinstalled up into it's hole to hold the plastic tight against the headliner). This gives you a small platform you can stick your rear camera to. The rear camera is very light and mine has never shifted simply being held by one headliner button. You can make this as small or large as you want, mine is about 3 inches long, dremeled out of an old Apple earbud package with the hole drilled in the middle. Has worked beautifully for me since. Well, it's much easier for me to do a simple search for the one already on the forum so here it is for anyone interested. How do you know I might not happen to be close to a camera and/or my car right now? Another member who posted his elsewhere, who used a larger piece and a "3-button" mod, can also be had with a simple search for "button mod dash cam".

Wouldn't you think it'd be much better for everyone if you weren't such a ***hole on here? Sorry I even spent the time helping and typing.

It was pretty simple to run the cord to the rear camera in the pillars and above the head liner, just used some plastic pry tools and was done in about 2 hours total for front + rear and setting up the camera software.
Finding an open fuse to tap into was probably the longest part as I have a number of them hardwired for other accessories.

as you can see it is very low profile and hard to see from the outside looking in. once I get it hard wired in you wont see the cable going thru the pass side grab handle because I'll run the wire to the fuse panel on the drivers side.

I also have the Rexing V1 Gen 3 and that’s where mine is mounted.

It’s 4K capable but I record in 1080p to save card space and b/c most people are watching on devices anyway. The Rexing also has wifi so you can connect your phone or tablet and review video. I usually just bring the card in to my laptop though.

My YT channel has a number of videos made from my dashcam footage, for example this recent review of a nearby off-road park.

I definitely recommend this camera & am happy to answer any questions.

I have seen a lot of people mounting their rear cams inside the car using the headliner but was wondering if anyone has mounted their rear cam outside the car specifically under the bumper? I saw a video where this was done and it looked like the picture quality was actually pretty good.

Any Thoughts?

I already had a backup camera (which is mounted below my bumper next to the hitch receiver) so I only have the forward one. Obviously the backup cam doesn't record anything.

If by rear camera you mean the one that records the vehicle's interior, I have no interest in that so I never considered one. I don't really see the point unless you're an Uber driver, taping Cash Cab, or people like watching you do karaoke with celebrities, but maybe I'm overlooking some benefit an interior setup offers? If so, somebody school me on that!

Fuses

I am looking to finally pull the trigger and purchase a unit along with a Hardwiring Kit and wanted to know what size fuse does a 2018 take? Mini, Low Profile, etc... Also what slot on the fuse box should i plug the unit into if I wanted the cams to run the Parking function? Note that I am a Huge Newbie when it comes time for electrical wiring.

Just an Update...I purchased the BlackVue DR590W 2ch and did the install yesterday.

Everything went smooth and the Dash Cam is great.
