Plug and Play Rear Camera Override Dongle

Thanks to all three of you for responding so quickly. I will post additional information later tonight when I get home. Warning - don't be too impressed with the instructions as they are not helpful what-so-ever.

Hi Rigtec, I have uploaded a picture of camera and wires and how they were connected. I have also uploaded the crappy instructions that don't even reference the camera I received.

It is the male-female adapter for connecting the camera to the extension/power line that gets really warm to the touch.

Well shoot. I pulled the 2 pins on my 11 TE 4r for the video feed from the connector as instructed, them decided to plug them back in, cut the wire and solder on two rca connectors so could easily plumb in the video switcher.
Then I couldn't get my backup camera to work anymore in reverse. Nor with the override switch. In fact, I see that there's not power going to the override switch anymore. The camera feed did work once or twice since I installed the rca connectors to the video feed, but not anymore.
Them tonight while driving home from 130 miles away, I noticed in a reflection in the parking lot that my headlights weren't turning on. DRLs work fine, and high beams work fine. But no low beams.
Did I slow burn a fuse? I tried removing the briguydiy reverse camera switch harness and plugged the factory harness directly into the nav unit, and still no reverse camera comes on. It's not that it switches but there's no picture, it's like it doesn't switch the display at all or do anything to recognize that I've shifted into reverse.

Check the 10a ecu fuse under the hood. If you want I can get on the phone with you today to see if we an figure it all out.

About using the AOB switch. It was mentioned that you can only use the 2 wires from the switch to activate the camera, but the switch harness has 4 wires.

Is there any illumination when only using 2 wires, the red and green wires from the switch harness to the dongle?

I've read through this thread a couple of times and I dont believe this has been covered. (Apologies if I missed it).

Or, do you need all 4 wires wired up to get ANY illumination?

Or, are all 4 wires required for constant illumination only?

I only plan to use the 2 wires for basic function and would be happy it it was lit when on. I wouldnt need it illuminated all the time.

Apologies if the answer is simple, electrical wiring is very foreign to me.

Can someone please clarify? TIA!

You can use only two wires and the switch will only be lit when it is pressed.

There are two wires coming off the dongle which will be run to the switch. The longer wire on the dongle is the 12v feed wire.

I do not have experience with this switch location but have heard others say that you can contort yourself and shove your hand up behind the panel to push the switch out. This may work for you but in my opinion sometimes it is easier to just take the panel off when doing these things.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but you do need the ground in order for the illumination to work.... so 3 wires. The 4th wire would be if you want illumination when the headlights are on.

What you're saying makes sense, but I don't have a ground wire hooked up and my switch lights when it comes on.

Hello All! I have a new item I think some of you will like which is replacing my old toggle switch two source selector. I have had some people saying they do not need four sources (still available through the four source box) and others were not 100% satisfied with the Four Source box so I mad this (which I have wanted to do anyway).

The new two source Item is designed to retain the factory look and can be used with the factory style switch of your choice (or any SPST switch).

So we would need two switches? One to turn on the override and another to switch between the two cameras? Just want to make sure I understand this before I purchase.

Yes that is correct, you will need two switches if you choose the option to add another camera.

One switch will activate the camera override and display the camera feed on the screen and the other switch will toggle between front/rear camera.

wait i bought a while ago but still havent installed my kit yet. I bought the two feed selector switch (i guess the old style now) and the 10-13 rear camera override dongle. I need another switch in line just to turn the camera feed on? please assist as i was thinking about taking this weekend...

You have the toggle switch to switch between front and rear cameras so you do not need a switch for that. I have a new style switch which uses a relay to switch between the front/rear feed and gives you the ability to use a factory style switch and keep the factory look.

To do your install you will only need 1 SPST switch which will be used to turn the camera feed on at anytime.

so the switch i have is at a neutral (aka showing my GPS screen, or audio, or other on the stock screen) when in the center, and then if i push it towards the rear of my vehicle the rear camera should activate showing it on my stock screen and remain there until pushed back to the neutral position? and if i push it forward it will show the front cam in the same manner until returned to neutral?

man i feel :clock: today. sheesh. sorry for all the questions.
