Can you provide some examples of why this is useful? This is simply a nanny feature someone in the digital camera industry convinced some govt official to force us to have.

No reason.

I used mine this morning to check my hitch carrier with a bike on it. Thursday to watch my friend 4 wheeling behind me. And to see the terrain when backing out of a tight spot. A day before that to see the plate of the guy tail gating me.
Also when lining up a hitch ball with a trailer. Or to see what that thing you just ran over is (or if you missed it).
It's just a tool to give the driver more awareness of their surroundings.

How about when you have mounted a passenger side camera tracking your wheels from driving/slipping off any drop greater that 2' let alone driving off a cliff.

Or have a front mount camera so you can see when driving over a steep break over, maybe keeping you from panning out on a boulder or flopping into a rut.

Or when you are on Lions Back (or similar narrow spine type feature) backing up doing a 6-12 point turn so you can drive down forward.

Or when you just want to see how close some tailgating ******* actually is to your rear bumper

Absolutely. Inquire for anything other than a 4Runner.

The connections are the same in the entunes but the wiring location can vary. If you are not buying for a 4Runner then just let me know which vehicle you will install in and I will let you know if it works.

Obviously this is not for everyone. My cameras show a picture of what is around me as well as the point extruding furthest from my vehicle (hitch in the back license plate in the front). The cameras show me there is still space between those points and whatever object I am trying to avoid. That is a great help when off-road or onroad in my opinion.

One could easily think they are close or further than reality. Remember when the mirrors had that language about objects and how they image may not be accurate?

To each his own. I would rather see a distorted image that keeps me from driving off the edge of a trail than rely solely on my intuition.

LOL Funny you should mention it, yeah I understand that. For the last 2 decades I have made my living off of what people see through a camera lens, real and virtual.

For my use...........hooking up trailer. Depending where my "better half" parks, I need to make several maneuvers back & forward to line up to tongue without hitting her vehicle. Shifting from drive to reverse, have to wait several seconds for reverse camera to display on screen, kind of annoying when make several maneuvers. Turning dongle override switch on, camera remains on no matter what gear I'm in.

Is dongle mod a "need or want" mod? I my case, it's "want" due to my use (mall crawler :sad:, I like to think of it as a toy hauler!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), certainly can see how others "need" it.

I'm working on trying to source an OEM style switch. Also, I will soon be offering a 4 channel video selector box which will allow you to view one or all 4 sources on the screen at once. This will be controlled be a small remote.

Shocked that you're from Austin....Do you wear 10 gallon tinfoil hat? I find it useful when towing to ensure the load is secure/bike racks not coming loose/vehicle recovery. I'm sure others use it for different things. I guess car speakers are just a ploy by the government to brainwash us into buying shampoo through subliminal messaging too huh?

Interesting? I actually tie my things down securely the first time and verify security regularly. I guess if your exit is routinely a bar the items you speak of are valid. I guess you would take your eyes off the road to check your stuff. That's right out of moron monthly.

Also, you might want to educate yourself on why cameras are mandatory.

Haha sorry about that. You will still need everything you have, the 4ch switcher will only replace the 2 source switch. If you are interested send me a pm and we can work something out when I get them.

Thank you for the write. I want to do something similar, but I know so many switches were required. Just so I understand for your setup, you have used 3 switches to achieve a switchable front and rear camera, right:

Switch 1 - Activate rear camera in any gear
Switch 2 - Send power to front camera
Switch 3 - Toggle between front camera view or rear camera view

Is there any way to reduce the number of switches by combining functions with one press? Like ideally, I would like the front camera to be powered with the toggle between front and rear camera view.

I have 2 switches.

1 to activate the override and show the camera on the screen and then the other to select the sources. My front camera is powered all the time. If the truck is on the camera is on, just not always displayed on the screen. The factory rear camera is also always powered regardless if the video is on the screen or not.

I have a 4 source video source box which works without a switch, only a remote control. This will allow you to do everything with only one visible switch.
