Plug and Play Rear Camera Override Dongle

Thank you for the write. I want to do something similar, but I know so many switches were required. Just so I understand for your setup, you have used 3 switches to achieve a switchable front and rear camera, right:

Switch 1 - Activate rear camera in any gear
Switch 2 - Send power to front camera
Switch 3 - Toggle between front camera view or rear camera view

Is there any way to reduce the number of switches by combining functions with one press? Like ideally, I would like the front camera to be powered with the toggle between front and rear camera view.

Yep. Now that I have everything installed, I'm going to work on getting everything consolidated into one switch with the use of a combination of relays to trigger multiple things.

I have 2 switches.

1 to activate the override and show the camera on the screen and then the other to select the sources. My front camera is powered all the time. If the truck is on the camera is on, just not always displayed on the screen. The factory rear camera is also always powered regardless if the video is on the screen or not.

I have a 4 source video source box which works without a switch, only a remote control. This will allow you to do everything with only one visible switch.

Thanks for the additional insight. I didn't know the rear camera was always on. I am interested in making a purchase once I see your new switches. Looking forward to knowing when they come in.

Noticed yesterday that my nav doesn't work right if I have the camera button on. System thinks I'm driving backwards. It's slightly hilarious.

Unplug shifter illumination harness (driver side).

There are two plastic tabs that hold harness to shifter housing, one white, one black. Release both, this will allow harness to be pulled back giving you room to splice into green (+) and gray (-) wires.

Then protect with loom and route wires to AOB switch. Connection to green and gray wires were made just beyond black tab as indicated by red arrow.

Connect dongle wires to AOB on/off switch, protect with loom. Test for proper operation prior to reassembly

It is one of those little credit card sized remotes. It has a button for each source and others to switch viewing formats on the screen. I will get a picture on the website.

Guys, need help.

Something f'd up and now my air-con and multi display above the dash don't work.

Installed the dongle, connected to aob switch, grounded, and forgoed connecting the dimmer wire as I didn't want to hook up to factory wiring. Now, air con and multi diplay only works when switch is depressed, and in reverse.

What did I f*ck up? Is something wrong with my dongle? (Slight attempt at humor)

What did you ground? The two dongle wires go to the switch. No ground needed. If you want to pm me your # I can give you a call and see if we can figure it out.

Just to clarify:

I grounded the black wire from the AOB switch only after I noticed my air and multi-display above my nav unit no longer functioned normally. Grounding the switch did nothing.

As it stands, my air and my multi display only operate normally when my truck is in reverse and the switch is depressed.

Switch has no effect on the display on my screen.

I have not hardwired the switch to the truck and no factory wires have been touched/ tapped/ altered.

Also, thank you to bjohnson115 for calling me immediately and for trying to troubleshoot with me. It's nice to have that support. If anyone else has any ideas/ familiarity with 2014 + nav wiring, please let us know.

Additional comment. When I remove the dongle and put everything back as stock, I still have the same issues as described. The only difference is I do not regain air-con or the display when in reverse.

Edit: also, the only window that will roll down is the rear window. And it appear none of my dash buttons work (inverter and wiper heater) in thinking I blew a fuse.

Trying not to over state the obvious, but have you checked all the fuses and retraced each step you took? Usually when I come across an issues like this it's a simple fix: fuse, loose ground, loose pin or terminal. I'd just go over each inch again or have a buddy with a fresh set of eyes look at it too.

All the fuses under the dash test positive. Still need to check under the hood. Not sure what might have tripped.
It is odd that I lost air, door windows, and the multi display (it still shows time though and I can adjust its brightness).

LED does not work on AOB switch

I installed the dongle this weekend with an AOB switch that sits next to the wiper warmer switch. The camera override function works fine but I could not get the AOB switch to light up. I used Posi-Taps (I don't know how to solder) to connect the AOB blue wire to the wiper warmer green wire, and then the AOB black wire to the wiper warmer grayish-white wire.

No LED when the switch is depressed or the lights are on. Again, the switch does the camera function just fine.

Maybe my posi-taps were too big? I'm using 16-18 ga size.

And yes, the wiper warmer switch works fine (even now). Lights up properly.

Sounds like dongle wires are reversed at AOB switch harness, try swapping them. AOB green wire is an input to switch and should receive 12v from black dongle wire. Red wire is output, when switch is depressed, 12v signal is returned through other dongle wire thus turning on BU camera. LED's are polarity sensitive.

And yes, the wiper warmer switch works fine (even now). Lights up properly.

That would be my guess. Would test both connections to verify you are receiving power and ground at blue and black wires of AOB harness.

Usually when I come across an issues like this it's a simple fix: fuse, loose ground, loose pin or terminal. I'd just go over each inch again or have a buddy with a fresh set of eyes look at it too.

Y'all were right. I had a blown fuse under the dash. 10A ECU IG 2 to be exact. That fuse apparently determines if you're driving a hot box from hell, or heaven on earth.
