Yes one DPDT switch could be used rather than two spst. The overuse would be wired to both throws on one pole and the camera toggle would be on one throw on the other pole.

SO. If you are absolutely sure you've wired everything correctly, and still can't get it to work, take a look at the fuses. I initially had things quickly wired up by hand and it all tested out perfectly. I went to solder all the wires together and buttoned everything up nice and neat only to find that the switch no longer worked. After ripping everything out and spending the next five hours trying to figure out what was going on, I came to this thread and saw someone had mentioned a fuse blowing. I checked the same fuse and sure enough, it had popped.:bash: I disconnected the battery this time. Replaced the fuse and redid all the work and I was back in business in less than ten minutes. :banana:
 
This dongle looks great, the 4 channel video switcher looks good too. Has anyone thought about using this as a dashcam and wiring the camera to a small composite video dvr? It would be great to record front and rear cameras constantly but view them independently of the recording. Obviously this would require that they be powered constantly while the vehicle is on but it would eliminate my need for a dash cam. From what I can tell, there isn't any dedicated hardware so I would need to build something with an old laptop or raspberry pi. Has anyone gone down this path and found something better?

I would be interested in this as well. I love having a dashcam, but I wish it was front AND rear recording as well as controllable or at least viewable through my head unit.

There are small vehicle DVRs out there on the market, i have seen some on Amazon. As long as the unit has a composite video out you can use it in conjunction with this and view the video on the factory screen.

Finally got my front camera replaced with one that works, and now with the 4 way switcher I can see front, rear or both and there is room for expansion. Love your work man!

On another note, the website doesn't seem to be loading for me. Just getting a blank white screen (and the old link from the original post gives an error message).
 
Interesting mod. Have you looked at incorporating a 3-way rocker switch, as opposed to having two separate switches (on/off and source select)?

The way I'm thinking it'd work; up (select front cam), middle (default), down (select rear cam).

Not quite sure how to make that work wiring-wise, though. What do you think?
 
Yes a double pole double throw switch would work perfect to replace one switch. Only issue is there isn't one made (that I know of) that fits in the factory spot and looks OEM.

Got the override kit for Christmas and that on-off-on switch idea is what I have been trying to work out. Not exactly sure how to wire it either, but the front camera position would have to trigger both the rear override and the source switch at the same time. Can anyone help with a simpleton's explanation for making this work?
