My 1993 4r was stick. I wanted it badly, i thought that stick is the best, but i was wrong, In USA you just can't have stick. no way. It is freaking difficult to EAT, DRINK, TALK on CELL, STEER, CHANGE THE TAPE OR CD, SHIFT GEARS and press on 3 pedals. :arrow:

Standard for traffic. Auto for convenience and off-roading.

Conclusion = automatic, but it's close.

What I really want is an auto with a shift-lock button that prevents downshifting.

I agree with what everybody else says. I personally like the tip-tronic transmissions. You have an auto option and can also shift manually if you feel like it.

stick= something on the ground that came from a tree or bush
Manual= a vehicle in wich the gears have to be physically changed by the driver,MANUALLY!

Auto on mine

There is a lot of hills here in Vancouver but I think I like an auto with this vehicle.. I just think autos should be better built and should have an oil cooler built in - a real one.. not the crappy ones that came with the 1988-90 Pathfinders that implode and take out your tranny.. yes i know it is a 4runner forum - but it is an example of manuf cutting costs.. instead of thiniking of the owner.

I have nerve damage in my legs so I had to give up the manual shift three years ago. Otherwise I'd still choose the manual shift.
