Port not releasing Tundras or 4Runners?

I would think it's a heck of a lot cheaper, safer, and better for damage control to put a bunch of trucks on a ship and sail them to Jacksonville then to load them up on semi trucks and drive them to the east coast.

It's possible, but since San Antonio is not close to a port they need to be put on a train to Houston or Corpus Christi. If they're already on a train it seems a lot easier to just send that to the east coast instead of finding an automotive transport for a relatively small number of vehicles headed a days drive away. Especially since that's the only automotive manufacturing anywhere close.

There is a quality control hold on tundras right now. It is a TMS hold so you can do anything until Toyota clears it. It is on domestic built vehicles. No 4runners are affected.

They are shipped by train. The domestic "port" for southeast Toyota is located in commerce, ga. The port for japanesse built cars is in Jacksonville.

I bought a 2017 about 3 weeks ago near ATL and dealer didn't mention anything about the 4Runners, but he did say there was an issue with the new Tundras regarding something with the step in the back bumper. They had 4 brand new that they weren't allowed to sell. Just my 2 cents.

Ah yeah i heard about this issue... for those that are getting the Tundra without the trailer hitch, if they stand on the step of the rear bumper, its bending. :lol:

Ah yeah i heard about this issue... for those that are getting the Tundra without the trailer hitch, if they stand on the step of the rear bumper, its bending. :lol:

The tundra is getting steel put in the "bed step" instead of some kind of polly material. the original case was if something hits the rear bumper of the tundra, then someone steps on it, it could bend or break causing an injury. This is why TMS has put the stop sale on certain tundras for the time being.

I have not heard anything from TMS about the 4Runner.

My dealer actually called me on Feb. 17 and told me my TRDP 4runner order was possibly being delayed.
It was kind of strange because a week earlier they said they could see my 4runner build date for March and port entry in Seattle WA. and a train ride would get it to the Midwest around the middle of April.

Probably not related but I definitely got a weird vibe from the dealer phone call.

He was preparing me for a delay. I guess its just a coincidence.

There are definitely delays when it comes to dealing with the distributor. I deal with it all the time from Gulf States, and when you send an email asking why there is a delay you typically get a very short response that doesn't really answer the question. But it is not uncommon to see your specific car built, and TMS or the port puts a hold on it. What sucks is we have to try and explain this to the customer and somehow get them to understand it is not the dealers fault. This is not the case in every situation though...sometimes the dealers are dumbasses and we screw up. LOL!

Thats a pretty bizarre issue to have, isnt it? Im kind of surprised the hitch isnt standard tbh.

The port said "The regional Toyota Center put out a memo only allowing only X amount of vehicles out in the holding areas of the port at one time" This was due to a string of port employees recently damaging vehicles waiting to be shipped to dealerships due to congestion.

The individual that shall not be named further went on to tell my dealership about an accident that happened two weeks ago where a port employees foot slipped off the break and he slammed into a parked car???

So there you go. The latest is my T4RP will be in this week can't wait to show you guys.

This sounds like BS to me. My personal opinion is that your dealer probably has a lot of unsold inventory and cant accept new units until some of their existing cars clear out to make space on the lot. Thus, units coming from the port are on hold until there is sufficient space.

This same thing happened to me, only that I got a straight answer and not BS.

Wouldnt surprise me. She did claim they had a customer bring one in that week I picked up our 4R. Not sure why she would offer that info unsolicited. :shrug:
