Portable 12v inflator recommendations?

I'm wanting to make a trip to the North Carolina outer banks. I'll need to air down when driving on the sand. I'm looking into getting a portable 12v inflator to reinflate later. It looks like there are a ton of them on amazon in the 30-40$ range. Do you guys have any recommendations?

Viair - purchased one from Cabelas from the bargain cave for like $65 and it works excellent. Though they are regularly over $200.

It's not specifically 12v, but the Ryobi tire inflator is a great option if you're willing to use the 18v battery packs to run it. It's inexpensive and it works great. Just set the desired psi and turn it on. It shuts down when the set pressure is reached.

i use a vlair 88p when i go offroading, its fairly cheap on amazon. I don't typically keep this in the car for daily driving though.


Otherwise, I keep a really crappy cheap slime one w/ my tire plug kit (only for emergency use only), in the car at all times.

Go buy a paintball gun bottle and a tire refill attachment and toss it in the back of your truck. 100% reliable, compact, no wiring, and you'll get probably two full tire refills from one fill.

I second the Viair 88P. It does a great job for the cash. It is probably the best bang for the buck compressor they make. Mine stays in my 98 4Runner all of the time. It fits great under the passenger seat.

I have a 12v (and battery capapble) Porter-Cable air pump that I am happy with. It's a little slow but it does the job. It is light weight, It also has a long enough power cable to reach, and is easy to use. It is and air pump with onboard tire infiltrator so, it is multi purpose. Good for inflating rafts, air mattresses, ect...

I also recommend the vlair and suggest getting the battery cigarette plug to battery clamp extension so you dont blow a fuse. Can fill stock wheels to 32psi, more than enough to turn the TPMS light off.

Just so you know they do have air stations in various places right by where you exit the beach. At least they did when I went there two years ago.

Viair 400p. I just took a side trip from down there and was happy I had my own quality compressor. The gas stations around do have air but they are used and abused and take FOREVER to air the tires up.
