I was hoping someone had a comparison for the Porter Cable 7424 and the Makita 9227C. They sell the Porter Cable everywhere and you can get it for dirt cheap but is it as good as the Makita? Generally with tools you get what you pay for and the Makita is about 100 dollars more than the Porter Cable...so any insights would be helpful.

its like a good, better, best . for the most part porter cable is the "better" one.
porter cable is fool proof, and will give you a professional result, newbie friendly and ease of use is what i like about it. Makita however is a nice polisher but is heavy. you'll be fine with a porter cable.

I have been navigating the Pinnacle website and they sell a package that includes the 7424 and some pads and polish and wax so I might just do that. I will price everything out though because I found a 7424 for 109.99 today on the internet. As for the pad I would have assumed it to be trash and junked it right away myself! They are 2 different type of buffers/polishers.... Not even close to being the same.

Portable cable 7424 = Random orbital polisher ( much safer and will not burn paint.)
Like I said I have both and use the PC most of the time.
Buy some good pads and dont use the one it comes with ....toss it . Not a good pad for paint.

Like Falls said, they are two different machines. A rotary works by spinning in a circle and creating heat to cut down the paint. A random orbital works by mimicing the motions of your hand. If I were you, I would get a Porter Cable and learn how to use it. Then when you get more experienced step up to a rotary. You'll still need a Porter Cable after rotary work cause a rotary will cause holograms in the paint.

Correct you are my friend ! I would go with PC , they are many pads to chose fron that really help with marring , also many new products that work well with the PC . I'm sure the PC will handle what you need to do. With the pads and products out today they can almost handle anything.

Kick ass, thanks guys. I guess I was under the wrong impression that they were the same type of machine. The Porter Cable is cheaper anyways! I wish I had the money because I would buy a Makita BO6040, two machines in one unit...but I must humbly stick to the PC. Again, thanks for the advise.

If you shop around you might be able to piece the same thing out cheaper but that seems like a load of work to me, but then again I am lazy! (Note the direct links I posted versus the embedded one you did

yeah i bought one not long ago but nopt from that site. all you need is some good swirl removers like the Pinncale XMT's or Poorboy's and you're good to go.Iron Clad Lou said:
