Posi unit went dead!???

About 3 months ago I had brought my 01 limited runner into the shop with what I knew was a bad rear wheel bearing. The shop said that I also had a bent axle on the pass side. They said they indicated it out and it was definitely bad! I gave them the go ahead to fix it and have had nothing but problems ever since. The first problem when I picked it up was that the brakes sucked! The pedal would go rite to the floor and it seemed like I had no rear brakes. I removed the drums and low and behold the adjusters were backed clean off to never, never ever gonna have any brakes land! Adjusted them and bled the system and we were braking fine again. Took the truck to Florida and back and put up on my new hoist and WOW, gear lube all over the inside of the drum on the same side the axle was replaced WTF!! That was two months ago. Now the posi unit has completely lost all function. By that I can say that when you are in snow the pass side rear wheel spins and not the drivers side. Tonight I put the truck up on my lift to see what is clunking and when you turn the drive shaft the only axle that moves is the pass side axle with a grinding noise and about 3/8 to 1/2 of play in the pinion before the axle moves either way.
Has anyone heard of wiping out a diff by replacing an axle? obviously it could happen with out any fluid in it but, still. I need to know as the guys at the shop want the truck back to see what happened and I'm not willing to let them put their hands on it again.
