Possible a/c problems

I have a possible issue with my temperature controls. When I adjust the a/c to LO which I am guessing is 64 degrees, the air coming out is cold. If I turn it up one notch to 65, warm air begins to come out. I can not seem to find a comfortable temperature. It is either ice cold or warm. Is this normal for 4 runners?

My 07' A/C is the same way. I feel your pain. I'm constantly jacking around with it. I spoke with a family friend who owns an 07' Toyota minivan and it's the same scenario.

All I can say is the heater core is extremely efficient. I did clean off the A/C thermistor (located right below the ignition key switch) and that seemed to help a bit. This thermistor registers cabin temperature and relays the signal to the A/C ECM.

It also helps if you set it to "Auto". If not mistaken, it will cycle the A/C compressor to blend in cool air to assist in offsetting the amount of hot air generated by the heater core.

I think that I had a similar problem--if it was set on LO, it was ice cold. The second that I put it on 65, it was very warm, enough to cook me out of the truck, is that about right?

If so, I had my issue taken care of through an extended warranty. Ended up being the control "panel" (the digital display piece) that was bad. It took them a long time to diagnose the problem, and they replaced about every part they could before replacing the control panel.

I cannot remember exactly how much that panel cost, but the whole process was well over $3k as they went through their diagnosis process. Hopefully, if your symptoms are the same, you can go straight to replacing that panel.

I suppose that the warranty paid for itself just through that one issue...

Yep that is what mine is doing. I will check out the panel prices. I will also check the thermistor if i can find it.

Thanks.

You might be able to replace the panel with a used one as well--the dealership planned to diagnose with a used panel, but we could not get the timing to work with the used truck they had on the lot.

andrew90lx, any update? My 04 LE w/200k miles just started doing this as well.
If I put it on dual mode, low one one side and 65 on the other it helps some but the 65 is hot hot HOT!

Auto, never could figure this out except to likes to max the fan.

Problem Solved:

Pulled the 2 10mm bolts that hold the lower dash panel on.

Sure enough right next to the white hose, basically where your right knee goes is the temp air sensor. There is also a electrical connector, mine was off.

Reconnected and now 65degrees is just slightly warmer than the cold outside. each degree up increases the heat like normal. BTW I don't use auto.
