possible abs mod for ultimate traction!

So according to the wiki page on abs, there is a controller that recieves signals from all 4 wheels, and this controller is hooked up to the master brake cylinder which then feeds that brake fluid through 4 valves to the brake calipers. If one wheel stops spinning while breaking the computer automatically lowers the pressure for that wheels brake until it starts moving again. If the computer could be set in a different mode, say when one wheel starts spinning faster than the rest, the controller would increase the braking force on that wheel only until all the wheels moved forwards regardless of their speed. You would have full torque on the other 3 wheels, and then there would be no need to lock any of the differentials. would this work, and why hasnt anyone done this yet?

I don't see why one would want any sort of braking force on their wheels in 4wd whilst trying to clear an obstacle which a locker would walk over, unless I misunderstand your interpretation of it.

That's what A-TRAC, TRC and AutoLSD do.
AutoLSD works only on 2WD cars, while TRC works in 4WD and in low range, too. But it is switched off, if the rear e-locker is enabled. TRC also limits/reduces the engine power to stop wheelspin.
A-TRAC only works in 4WD low range (to prevent overheating of the diffs and brakes) with or without the rear e-locker engaged and doesn't limit/reduce engine power.
I think you can't converting an ABS only vehicle to TRC/A-TRAC with only changing the ECU. You need some sensors: steering angle, yaw rate, ... and bigger brakes!
I'm not sure, but I think the ABS control valve unit will not work, because you need a high pressure hydraulic pump to generate the brake pressure to make TRC/A-TRAC working.
 
thats really cool and exactly what i was talking about. It would be awesome if it was just one lever and then there was a mechanical selector that would choose right left or both, that way I wouldnt have to lose the cup holders. Ive got access to a mill, lathe, tig and mig welders so i should be able to come up with something.

That's a great idea. Maybe it's possible to install the selector at the axle where both cables for right and left are connected together and have in the center console only a small remote cable lever for this.
Anyone has pictures of how the two cables oft the twin handbrake mod connect to the axle?

If you have access to a lathe and a mill, i think you should build something to lock the rear differential instead of messing with the brakes.
 
Even the pre-A-TRAC ABS-only systems have a hydraulic pump, that's been part of an ABS system since the beginning. Without one, when the ABS system bleeds down a brake to prevent it from locking, the result would be a sinking brake pedal. Which would freak drivers out, a lot.

So when ABS engages and is actively bleeding back wheels, a pump kicks in and replensihes the drained fluid on the pressurized side of the system.

All that said, yeah, it's not practical to convert an ABS only system to something like A-TRAC.

haha this is true, but I dont really have the time to take apart my rear diff right now as my truck is my dd, and I start school tomorrow. also even if i had the skills to make the parts needed, I wouldnt even know where to start.
