The current one I'm working on is a first...I'm trying to match the texture of the black SR5 flares.

And I may have my first color matched one coming up soon as well.

Once these are done, I'm going to rework mine...going to try a Raptor style with big TOYOTA letters.

Finished up mine this afternoon:





I've been using SEM 39103 satin black bumper paint for all my exterior black trim, so I used it again here and it worked out well. Going to let it cure overnight before mounting it again tomorrow.

Grille material came from CustomCarGrilles (via Amazon), and was pretty much the perfect size and easy to shape with a dremel. I went with the circle mesh since it seemed sturdier and easier to clean bug guts off of, and I think I'm going to use the motif elsewhere too.

Emblem is the smaller one used on the rear gate (part 0042S35968.)

So I drove to Albany from Boston for Thanksgiving and in the snowstorm, my satoshi grille got clogged with snow/slush and the engine an tranny started overheating. I cleared all the snow, and in about 20 minutes it was clogged again. I had to pull over and knock out the grill piece, so now I just have an empty grille frame

Not sure if anyone else has had this happen, but the mesh is certainly easier to clog than the stock grille. I have driven through snowstorms previously and never had this happen.

Anyway, I didn't get any pictures because it has super wet out and I didn't want to pull my phone out and take pictures. I'm not sure if I'll put the original grille back in, or put in a new, coarser mesh for the satoshi.

Just thought I'd share for others to think about.

repels all water and might be an interesting solution to your problem

More a Junk-draweroshi mod...
gutter guard the neighbor gave me, screws and nuts from the odds and ends box, some left-over paint. The emblem is a gift from my husband. A little different, the gutter guard is not so far back as the Satoshi style is....the front of the emblem is just a little behind the outer chromey edges of the grille

Bondo. The big cross bar is actually capped on the back, so you just file it flat then fill the indentation with bondo, sand smooth.

Same with the little bars, but since those aren't capped, use a piece of tape to give yourself something to press the bondo in against.

I fiberglass the back side where the bars are. Depending on the grille manufacturer, the holes are either small or large-ish. Once the fiberglass cures, I bondo on the inside, then sand smooth.

I'll post some pictures of mine once I get the rest of the stuff in. Right now it's empty on the inside, but that should change sometime in January. I think it'll look great.

I originally bought mine off a member here, the outside of the grille had been modified and I just needed to install the mesh that had been precut. I was debating on having the FJ Toyota emblem, or leaving it blank, and I had seen zopperman used a 4Runner emblem which was cool and unique and I had seen the Tacoma Raptor grilles, so using our 3D printer at work I printed some letters for mine. I like it since it's unique and I haven't seen any other grilles like it. Nothing fancy, the letters were 3D printed with black plastic and then I painted them and just epoxied them onto the mesh. I've debated on painting the chrome black or color matched white, and also debated on doing a white outline on the letters or doing them white or silver since they're kinda hard to see in poor lighting...
