Sastoshi Front Mesh

My take on it... most people attach the mesh to the back "easy". and just dont care for fat black lip and sunken in grill IMO. So I made this to insert from the front And it pops going with the contour of the front end.

The zip ties are just to allow the bond to harden
then do a little more sanding and a final coat then paint the letters white
will post final results.

I basically laid the grille on some cardboard and traced the opening with a sharpie. I then cut the cardboard to size and laid it on the mesh. I then used tin snips to cut the mesh. I cut approximately 3 inches larger all around the cardboard so when i shape it i will have something to screw down with self tapping screws.

After you cut the mesh you then start bending and shaping the mesh to fit in the opeing of the grille. It takes time and patience. I used the cardbord as a guide to shape the mesh. Once you have the right shape you then use self tapping screws to secure the mesh to the grille. You do this on the inside lip of the grille of course.

Buy any 4runner grille from years 1996 to 1998 and cut out the middle portion. These fit all any year 3rd gen 4runner.

Its holding up great. Do you plan on painting it? If so i would get the grey grille.

Plan on keeping it chrome with black mesh and chrome FJ40 emblem. Just ordered the grill and emblem, waiting for it to come in to get some dimensions for mesh. I would color match it but I like the chrome to sort of brighten the surrounding paint from the hood.
