Suspension upgrade DONE

My buddy took a few more pics of the build and he is going to send them to me, but I got hyper focused after lunch so no additional photos taken by me. Sorry for now, but stay tuned for final suspension upgrade pics, more build pics, and further updates on the ride. However, the job is done!!!! 1 full 11 hour day start to finish.

1) XREAS removed

2) Front OEM XREAS struts, OEM coils, and Daystar 2 1/2 spacers removed
Front OME 90021 struts and OME 885 (w/ 5 mm spacer DF) coils installed

3) Rear OEM XREAS struts, OEM coils, Daystar 1 1/2 Spacers, and Airlift 1000 removed
Rear OME 60020 struts, Toytec RCC2.0HD coils, and Airlift 1000 installed

Original center of axle to bottom of fender and preliminary after
DF - 22" and 23"
PF - 22" and 23"
DR - 22" and 24 1/2"
PR - 23 1/2" and 24 1/2"

My DF XREAS was leaking so not really sure why the DR was low (poss because of gas tank???) compared to PR, but after suspension upgrade front and back are even!!! I am expecting a little break in and I will measure again and update over time.

*the after measuremements were taken quickly in the garage and after a few mandatory beers (thank you growlers from Cannonball Creek brewery) so I need to validate measurements after the snow and in daylight (finished mod in the dark...lol).

We took a short test ride, in the snow, after completion and the ride quality was phenomenal. I had less body roll, less bounce, and a much quicker return to ride height feeling. LOVED it.

I am stoked about the mod and I'm looking forward to providing updates over time!!!

Thank you Jeff for being my experienced helper, T- Man for helping with a couple of specific questions, those that I thanked earlier in my build post, and all of you that share GREAT information on Toyota- 4Runner.org! Without all of you, I might have sent this job to a shop, and I'm so glad I didn't.

Thanks everyone!!!!!
Go 4th Gen!!!!!!!

Nice. Im about to install all new suspension on my brother's runner w/ xres. Looks messy:p. Mine didnt have it so this will be my first. Looks pretty straight forward!

Build looks good !!!!

Alignment - old

At Firestone for alignment after suspension upgrade (lifetime alignment purchased in 2010). Save 100 bucks on this mod...sweet!

This a pic of the alignment specs done in 2010 with Daystar leveling kit. I will post another pic of alignment specs after alignment today!

Post build alignment

...and the results are in!

In spec for Camber and Toe, and out of spec for Castor! I'm not thinking any more needs to be done!

Creative ingenuity

We didn't have/use a coil compressor for install. As you can see from pic below we used creative ingenuity, a pry bar, and a whole lot of persistence! This was just after we got DR installed! Yep...it was a PITA, but well worth it!

It seems like your front was taller than OEM already! Did you have a Daystar leveling on the front?

I'm curious about your choice of rear springs, why you went with TT superflex vs OME. Do you happen to know the spring rate of the TT springs by any chance?

Let us know after a while if your mpg suffers much due to the extra air drag.

Yes, I had a Daystar 2 1/2 X 1 1/2 leveling kit.

I actually went with the Toytec Superflex rcc2.0HD. I don't recall spring rates, but they're posted in the suspension sticky. However, the OME 895 is supposed to be 40% stiffer, the Toytec sfrcc2.0hd 25% (1/2" taller too), and the Toytec sfrcc2.0 10% stiffer than the stock springs. The feedback from many is that the OME 895 were very stiff (almost harsh) when running empty. I don't have any extra weight in the back (after market bumper, tools, etc...) and I run empty quite often. However, I do carry people and sports gear (skiing, biking, hiking, camping) often along will towing a PUP from time to time. I thought going with the spring stiffness in the middle would be the best choice for my use of T4r. So far I love the ride and alignment ended up pretty good too (castor was in spec with Daystar and not with OME). This is not my DD so it will take a little while before I get some good time behind the wheel to share final thoughts on ride.

I can't comment on MPG change as it was already lifted. However, I'm typically getting 16-18 even with my Yakima rack up top, including trips up I-70 westbound! Not bad at all for a lifted runner with a V-8!!!!

Excellent info, thank you for the explanation. I'll be in the same boat as you when my time comes for a lift and will mimic your setup! I too have a PUP and have air bags in the rear springs so I'll move them over to the new springs.

Alignment question

BlackWorksInc

Hoping you would be willing to peak at my alignment specks in this thread (posts #27 & #28) and share your $02. With Daystar lift all specs were green. After replacing with OME/Toytec last weekend camber and toe are green, but castor is red. It's still positive, but at .5 vs. minimum spec of 2.5. It drives straight and steering returns to straight when I release the wheel. However, it feels a bit "floaty" at speed and steering wheel is not dead straight.

Thoughts? Thanks in advance for taking a look..

Yeah that's way too low a Caster setting, I'm not sure how they even gave that back to you like that. It will feel floaty with such low Caster.

I have a feeling they didn't set the cams up right when they did the alignment, because even with a lift they should have gotten a bit better than that.
