power antenna delete?

The only antenna that will fit the existing motor assembly is the original power antenna mast. Available from Toyota or aftermarket (OEM recommended). To use any other antenna the power antenna motor needs to be removed and a "bracket" that holds the base for a fixed, screw-in type antenna installed in it's place. I think you should skip the shorty idea if you like to listen to FM radio. Everyone I've heard from who has a shorty says the reception is downgraded. I think you should first try to remove the existing power antenna mast by removing the ring at the base that holds it on. Use a flat head screwdriver and be careful not to scratch anything. Place the flat-head on one of the four crenels and tap it until it starts to unscrew. Of course there is a proper tool for this if you want to get it for about $10. Then have someone turn on your radio so the antenna motor raises the antenna. When it gets as high as it will go pull up real hard on it and it should come out with the white nylon teeth that roll up into the motor. If you can get the whole old antenna out, the cheapest and easiest option is to just replace the broken antenna. To install the new one, lightly push the new antenna's nylon teeth into the antenna mast hole while turning off the radio (or switching to CD) and letting the motor pull the new antenna in. Replace the crenelated ring. There is no point in just getting a new power antenna mast unless you know you can get all of the old one out. Remember which way the teeth are pointed when it comes out.

Good post. ^^^ It's also not the end of the world if you have to do a little surgery to dig the broken pieces out of the gear system. I did. My power antenna needed service to replace the mast once in 15 years. It disappears completely into the fender when I want it to and gets good reception otherwise. I still prefer it to the whip or the stubby options. I don't get the hate that system gets on here.

guess there are small differences year to year maybe. i only know what my 2002 had. guess if someone reads through this they will see what they might find.
 
Well that antenna wont work due to the shape of the fender. Antenna is for a flat surface. I think i need to get an oem one from a tacoma or 4runner base modle if they came with out a power antenna.

Per [MENTION=98153]MStudt[/MENTION]'s thread, you need part number 44-US07R (believe he listed it by the alternate p/n CK-US07R). Gonna try it out this afternoon.

It's simple to install. Take off the passenger tire, remove clips for inner fender, pull inner fender aside, unbolt antenna, remove nut from top of fender, unplug antenna cable, and remove. My build is in my sig and has a write-up on how to do it.

Is there a trick to removing those clips without completely destroying them?
 
A lazy option would be to use one of these:

I used this with a scion t1809 radio, simple plug n play and reception is great
 
Just got mine installed. $13 at O'Reilly Autoparts. Looks so much better than the busted power antenna I had before.
