So, I think I may have a bad connection in my system or something, or maybe a relay is going out. Ill try and describe my symptoms as best I can.
For a while I was having starting issues: I would turn the key and only hear a click, one right away and one when I released the key. Dash lights etc would dim but no cranking. Either I'd just keep trying or screw around with some of the connections under the hood and eventually it would work, but took a long time to turn over. It seemed like the more unsuccessful start attempts I had the longer the engine would crank before it turned over and it would start pretty rough.
Eventually I figured it was an issue of not getting enough power. I replaced the corroded and cracked positive battery terminal attachment and the problem disappeared.
A few days ago I left my headlights on (I know, stupid) and ran out my battery. My buddy tried to give me a jump and it still wouldn't work. Five mins of being connected would give me enough juice for a key ding but it would die again when I tried to turn the key. He had a small car/battery so I tried a different friend. It still wouldn't start but was making the clicking noise from before. Left it connected for a while and eventually got some halfassed turns from the starter. Eventually it started (took a long time and started rough, just like it used to before I fixed the battery connections).
As long as my battery is fully charged, it starts every time, but there is sometimes a delay of a second or two from when I turn the key until the starter kicks in. I feel like it shouldn't need this much power to start (or am I wrong here?) Could I have a relay going out or something? Or am I making a problem out of nothing? Thanks in advance for your advice.
