Power response question

Hi,
I have a 2006 Toyota 4runner V8 4x4.
So far I have been very happy with my Runner but recently I have had to travel on highways in Mexico allot.
The runner does great, but would like to se where can I improve it a bit more.
Specially in the power response and the stability.
My main reason for searching a bit more response from the car is when I need to overtake 18 wheelers.
Can any one suggest a mod that can improve a little bit more the power response. I was thinking of an exhaust or a Volant intake.
Can any one suggest anything else or comment on this two?

As far as for stability in general the runner feels nice even when taking curves at 80 mph. But just for peace of mind can any one recommend a set up that wont compromise the off road abilities of the runner while keeping it safe on the road?
I think of adding BF A/T's for at least better peace of mind with tires. Any ideas?
Thanks guys!

PS
Here is a photo of my runner on this weeks road trip in Chihuahua Mexico

Intake and exhaust would be my choice to boost up the power a little bit...

As far as stability i'm not really sure, i got used to my 4runner not being very stable when windy... so what i do is just slow down.

You could do a search on some intakes, exhaust and lifts that other members did to their V8 :)

How does the valor exhaust perform, does it offer a more throaty sound to the V8?

Think the valor is only a polished tip you add on to your current exhaust tip.

The usual choices for cat back exhaust systems are magnaflow, trd, gibson and borla.

And the choices for intakes are volant, trd, trueflow and k&n.

I use on my T4R, a magnaflow exhaust with a TRD intake and I love the sound and the added power it gives.

you have a V8, should be powerful enough

it sounds like your V8 is not breathing enough properly if you have a hard time overtaking those 18 wheelers. intake and exhaust combo, should give some boost. otherwise an aftermarket replacement filter helps.
use synthetic oil (engine and diffs)

If I go with a volant intake do the forging capabilities of the runner are affected?

be careful with the intakes with the oiled filter. the oil off of them can foul your mass air flow sensor, which is big $$

i recommend supercharger...:biggrin2:

IS there a TRD supercharger for the V8?

For what you will actually get out of a CAI & exhaust will not be worth the money at all.

You would see significant gains if you were running a supercharger , but not on a stock motor.

Don't believe what the box's and ads tell you. YES , you will gain but not like they say. 99% of people buy that stuff and go by the seat of the pants feel , actually maybe even a placebo effect , if you would run a stock truck on a dyno you would see what you really get for the amount of money for an exhaust and intake. It won't make you happy .

Outrnnr, sorry to be off topic but in your sig what is the DA = 7838?

Back on topic and about tires;unless you actually off road quite a bit BFGs are an expensvie and subpar choice wehn you are back on the pavement and their water evacuation characteristics are quite poor compared to my Nittos and I know from personal experience and I'll never own another set of BFGs.

That was the density altitude the night I was at the track. Calculated based on air temperature, humidity and barometric pressure all which, as you know, affect times. I threw that number into an online calculator to derive my theoretical sea level times. :)

If I was driving at high speeds and was looking for a tire the BFG A/T would not be something I would pick it's a real good tire but not a high speed or fast cornering sort of a tire. I think I would get something like the Firestone dest. LE. It's a great tire for the driving you want to do.
