power steering hose question 03 4runner v8

not my car so bear with me lol.

Friends 03 has a leak. From what I can see it's from the lower left hose.

I've tried to look up the hose part and I keep getting what appears to be a rubber hose with metal pipe and then more rubber.

Is this hose indeed one piece design? I was going to try to replace this weekend but not sure what I'm ordering

It the hose right at where the steering shaft joins the rack n pinion I guess

I cannot answer your question but will suggest that, if you are able, pull the hose and have one fabbed up at a shop.

I replaced two hoses on the family Tundra and spent half the money I would have otherwise spent.
Not sure if they are out your way but there is a Sanel Auto Parts near me that has a machine shop. They have been successful in making the aformentioned steering hoses as well as a few hyraulic lines on my tractor....again, at a fraction of the cost.

if its leaking at a joint between rubber and hard line, or even seeping out of the rubber itself(common) then the below option is good advice.

yep, its usually much cheaper to go this route. they just replace the rubber sections, while reusing the hard lines, and some times the ends.

however, this isn't always the best option if you cant have the vehicle down for a few days .

i went through this last summer, cost me like 365 for a new line set from the dealer. It sucked.

Those lines are pressure lines. The rubber hose you see is connected to the metal ends by crimp connections. Without special equipment, it is very difficult to remove and replace the rubber part of those lines so that they don't leak. It will be more expensive, but without access to the right type of shop equipment, is will be easier to just replace the entire pressure line as an assembly.

ok. guess what I will do is remove it and bring it to my local hose shop and then go back and install it...I got vacation time anyhow...lol...

I am pretty sure it wont cost as much as a $300 toyota replacement

If it is the pressure side, expect to pay $$ for it. I have tried shops that specialize in hydraulics, but the price around me is close to dealer price for OEM so I have gone with dealer parts. If it is on the return side then you can get regular hose from the part store as long as you can route it without crimping it. Sometimes I have used line and hose to make the turns.

Which one is which?

I don't know. It's on left driver side of car. Attached to steering assembly right where shaft joins the horizontal steering assembly(dont know proper term)

My 04' is leaking out of the power steering pressure hose. On the metal part not the rubber. I was thinking about maybe just buying a metal tube of the same diameter and bending it instead of replacing the whole thing. Any input?

Hi, hoping to revive this thread. I noticed a power steering leak, looks like I traced it down to the driver's side, believe it's the return line from steering gear to reservoir. When I started car and turned the wheel I saw more red fluid seeping out from fitting.

Can this be fixed with the Sunsong 3402985? And is there any info on how to do the PS line replacement?

Not sure if that exact piece will fix you up, but probably with a little massaging you can make it work. I splice hose into my '03 drain hose because the tube running on top of frame rail drivers side was leaking, Cut out a section of the steel and spliced in hydraulic hose/clamps from NAPA 2 years ago and no problems to date.
