Power Steering Resevoir

so this morning i went out to warm up the truck, and there was a weird "gearish" sound coming from the power steering resevoir. i opened it up and man the sound was loud. i could see fluid swirling around in there and closed it back up. after it warmed up. the sound died down. should i be worried about this?

I had the same symptoms that would happen on cold mornings. It turns out i had a small leak that got worse over time. The gearish noise you are hearing is most likely do to cavitation of your ps pump. Trace your lines and make sure you have no leaks, look for places it could pool up if you dont see it on the ground. Try a fluid flush.

Use quality ATF when refilling.

ok so may be a dumb question but how does one go about flushing the ps system, and your supposed to use atf not ps fluid in these trucks.

Drain the reservoir, fill it, run it, repeat.
Then get all the air out by repeatedly turning the wheel from lock-to-lock (while sitting still)
