Power Steering.

Hey guys, I'm back

Ok, so I installed a new power steering pump about 4 months ago maybe longer and now here recently about 1 months ago it started leaking real bad I have to fill it up every other day. So I bought new belts and tightened it up. still leaks, looks like its coming from the back part where those two lil hoses connect. Also from puting fluid in it so much. I have lost the cap, so now I need to know where to buy a new cap because all the places around here don't carry one and I want to order one. I've also fliped floped those little 2 hoses and have had no luck. I figured one was intake and other was outtake. Also I tried putting a little sealent around them and it didnt' help either.

Sounds like a bad air control valve.

I've had 2 of them go on seperate trucks. That little valve controls the idle when you steer lock to lock so the engine wont die when idling.

1 went and dumped constant fluid into the intake creating a huge smoke show. The other leaked around the base. Had to replace both, they are a somewhat common failure.

Also What kinda fluid should I be using as well

Check with the local pick & pull salvage yard. As far as fluid, Trans fluid is what's called for. dexron type ATF

That vacuum valve is for the Progressive Power Steering.
You could plug the 2 vac lines and cap off the 2 ports on the valve if you don't want to spend the money on a new one.

Thanks for the replies, I researched on this site, and I went to ebay and bought one made out of metal, that should last me forever. It was only $50 compared to the $100 pricetag for a new plastic one like on the other sites. Well no wander it's been leaking I been using power steering fluid and it looks clear looking. When the new vacuum valve comes in I'll flush it out and buy new dextron fluid, Can someone tell me how to properly flush the system as well?

Also I don't know anything about salvage yards and that stuff, so I ordered a new cap off ebay.

Drain the resevoir and fill with ATF, drive it a bit, repeat once or twice.
Keep turning the wheel from lock-to-lock to work the air out.

Say if I were to maybe remove the valve last summer to see what the hell that valve does and put it back on, would it cause a significant enough leak to basically drain the reservoir?
My kids PS pump is leaking all over and down the engine and tranny..... And I may have taken that valve off last summer, I don't remember. Can he just replace a crush washer on that valve to fix the leak???
