I am looking to replace my factory front speakers with a pair of 3-way Kicker 6x9's that I have laying around. I was just wondering if I am better off powering them from the stock JBL Synthesis amp or from the new Kenwood HU. An amp is out of the question since I am pretty much broke. The Zapco 360 amp I do have will not fit under the seats due to the power seats. Not sure how many ohms the 6x9's are. Hopefully someday I can figure out how to get all my good speakers and amps in there but this is just to start for now. Thanks!

use the zapco to power the speakers, im thinking of a false floor in the trunk or mount it on the side panel for now. also sound deaden the door.
All good ideas, but can't really do any of that now. No cash for sound deadening and am trying to avoid making holes in the side panels for now. It would be great if there was a really high strength velcro like tape I could use. Somehow I eventually want to use some combination of the following: Kicker 6x9's, Kicker 5 1/1" two way components, JL XR693 Three way components (6 1/2, 5 1/4, and tweeter), JL 13W7 Pro Wedge sub, Zapco 360 and Zapco 1100M amps, and a twin VooDoo capacitor. All of which I already have from a previous truck. Also the speakers in the original post are 4 ohm...

theres is some velcro thats about 1 1/2 to 2 inch wide, couple long strips of those and its really secure. i did that to a rockford pbr amp on a harley saddle bag, 2 strips and it sticked on there like glue. just made it possible for him to do some service when he needed too.

2 inch wide at the hardware store, they charge by the foot. make sure to get both sides.

it felt pretty heavy duty. i think 4 strips spreaded out evenly is enough to hold the amp on a panel. just make sure the surface is clean of any dirt or oil.

Thanks. That storage rack looks cool but says it will not fit the '03-'04 like I have. I was just out playing around and I think I can just barely fit the 360 under the pass seat. It sticks out when the seat is pulled forward but I really never have anyone in the back anyway. I think I am going to eventually try to fit the 6 1/2 and 4 1/2 drivers in the door where the 6x9's go. After I pull the panel off I will see what has to happen. For now I think I am just going to run the 6x9's off of the fatory amp while I get the wiring all done for the Zapco. Will look into the velcro for when I go to mount the sub amp. Thanks!

I kept all 3 amps hidden. Under seats and inside panels. That way I can still fold the seats down and not to worry about damaging my amps. If I wanted too, I can utilize the rear coat hangers and build an amp rack and put all the amps in the ceiling.
I mounted all my stuff to the back seat with small screws. Ended up trading that 4runner in and when i removed all of it you could barely see the screw holes

That is one of the ways I was thinking of doing it. Like Rice and Pho I was worried about the equipment getting damaged when folding the seats down. I think this weekend I will start doing some mockups to see how this will all play out. It is the dual cap bank that I am most worried about. Don't want to dent that! Also the 1100M is a pretty big amp. I woud love to mount thembehind the panels but i will have to look and seee if there is room. Also the 3-way components in the front will be a real pain. I have had them for almost 15 years and they have never been used, still in the box. Being JL they are really good and I am anxious to see how those bad bous sound!

im thinking of either false floor or building a rack and using it on passenger side, have the amp front of the rack and back of the rack. if the zapco is so mint, i would show it off. i dont think they will fit inside the panel.

Not sure I know what you mean by "mint" but they are in new looking condition. It is a pretty plain looking but clean amp. Not fancy or "showy" which I like. Also have heard many good things about them which is why I bought the many years ago (when I actually had money). Mainly I just want to keep it out of the way. I think I will just stick to running the 360 for the doors for now and worry about the sub at some other time...

your amps are designed to be showed off, since of that size, i would show it off. if the amps are still new looking, build a nice false floor with some plexiglass cut out, to show it off. now you make me want to show off my rockford power series amp, i have 3 matching ones.
While good ideas and it would look nice I would kind of want to keep the expensive bits as hidden as possible. What I mostly posted about and took me a long time to get to is how would the 4 ohm speakers sound with just the factory JBL amp driving them. Would they be too quiet? I will most likely have them hooked up that way as I slowly start running wires. Remember, my budget is pretty close to $0...

i assume a 4 ohm speaker load on a 2 ohm speaker load means the amp produce half the power. i think itll be a little quieter.
Well I went ahead with my temporary setup. I powered the speakers right from the head unit for now and and they sound fantastic! Only problems now is that they overpower the rest of the factory ones, but that is not really a problem at all. Only that it makes my want to get a move on replacing the rest of the system as soon as I can!
Juat went ahead and installed the 6.5" woofers from my JL component set in the rear doors. Now that makes a world of difference. Eventually I am going to replace the four factory tweeters with my Kicker and JL ones. Just can't find one of my Kicker crossovers. As for the bass that has to wait for quite a while to get some cash saved up for new sub and probably new amp. The sub amp and the JL 13W7 just take up far too much room. I am perfectly happy with how it is now. Just want to know if there is a separate removable panel that just covers the sub area, not just the whole side panel...
