Practical Mods

Just sitting here flip-flopping about how to spend some of my bonus money and was curious what people think are the most practical mods for our 4runners.

When I say "practical", I mean for everyday daily driver use.

For example, I have already done:

- extra power outlets
- rubber cargo mat
- tow strap (will get recovery strap once I get a hitch installed)
- emergency gear in cargo area
- /edit/ ordered weathertech floor liners for front and rear, already have husky cargo liner
- ordered cargo net
- Mag-Lite mod /end edit/
- future - will get my cobra CB installed and get an antenna mounted somewhere

Anyone have any good ideas for some more practical mods? I would like it to enhance the daily driving experience and enhance the moderate off-roading experience.

Id suggest Slidders from StubbsWelding, or Armor from BudBuilt

If you're in the 4Runner for the longhaul and tow that Suzuki around (or any other trailers) I'd consider a trans cooler. Link in sig.

Your next mod should be a TRD CAI. You can get it on eBay for $280 (free shipping), and install it yourself within 2 hours.

You'll love the new sound and increase in power.

I like that idea! It may be further down the road since I am not into off-roading a whole lot YET...

That is a good suggestion as well, but I should probably get a hitch also. haha.

Anyone have an opinion between having U-haul install one of their hitches vs. me ordering a hidden hitch and installing it myself?

How difficult is it to relocate the light plug?

I've been looking at that one! I do really like the way our engines sound in acceleration but would like to hear it just a bit more. I was debating between the TRD CAI or the Flowmaster 50 Series SUV muffler....
 
I still like my MagLight mod. After misplacing a lot of the small LED based flash lights, my maglight is secure and serves as cheap insurance for dark situations, acts as a self-defensive tool, and won't be hidden when it's actually needed.

Other mods include clear headlight covers, rebased HID lights, dielectric greased spark plugs, weathertech vent visors, a Gorilla Power Wrench stored next to the hydrolic jack and a few others I can't seem to remember at this time.

details please? This sounds interesting.
 
Pics seem to have disappeard.. I've since upgraded to a LED bulb, but the Maglight is still back there, and the batteries seem to hold a charge over time :)

I have the same problem on IE. If I open the link with the Firefox Mozilla browser pics are there. Your thread is not the only one. Why? No clue.
 
Hey fireengineer, where about in KC are you from? Do you work for kck fire? I am a firefighter in southern johnson county.

Oh and i like the mods, i have hids, and tint in my 06 4runner so far, many more mods will be coming though.

I work in Olathe for a fire protection engineering consulting firm. Which one of the burbs do yo work for? How long have you been there?

How do you like the HIDs? Worth it?

I hear you about the "many more mods".. haha, this thing is a really fun way to burn through a LOT of money! ha.

Ha, very small world indeed! I work for joco fd1.

As far as the hids go they are awesome, the factory projector headlights work great with the hids, i got mine for 42 bucks shipped from ddmtuning.com. They were cake to install and look great.

Its a great way to burn more money, everyday i get on this website i see more stuff i wanna do. Im sure i've seen both you guys around town too.

Wow what are the chances? I would suggest a Johnson County meet and maybe some light trailing, but I am about to move to Oklahoma City for work...

In other news, I finally found the maglite brackets and drilled them into the jack compartment cover.

I also ordered the cargo net.

Will debate exhaust and/or intake for a while... any more ideas?
