Took my daughter out to Prairie City to do a little off-roading. This is the first time I've ever been out on this type of terrain and I was alone so, I took it easy. I had the whole 4x4 area to myself so I took my time and drove where I was comfortable. Usually I'm out on flat dirt roads so this is all new to me. Plus, I'm a huge puss. :behind sofa:

First tip for anyone going here for first time... BRING CASH. The ranger I spoke to at the gate was kind enough to let me in for free since I did not have any cash. Really nice gentleman!

Spent about two hours just wandering around the area. It's a pretty cool park. There are lots of different areas for all kinds of OHV activities. Most of the people there were in the MX area. Had I been with someone else I would have done the more difficult trails, oh well maybe next time. Sorry for the dark looking pictures. It was overcast most of the time I was there.

Got brave taking that NICE looking ride out there. So I guess you didn't go up the pyramid?

Another member just broke his cv on the far right climb trail with the pipes in it, I guess he figured I did it, why not.

Nope, didn't go up the pyramid. The truck is a daily driver so I don't go too crazy in it unless I absolutely have to. Maybe If a spotter was available I would have done the more difficult stuff.

PPPSSSSTTTT. Mines a dd also. Yea I know what you mean, my prior 04 was all stock with m/t tires and I used to go camping and find trails I shouldn't dare. Did a few though.

I only made it to the second level on the pyramid with my stock tires, no spotter.

Off topic rant here ...

Glad to hear that you had a great day out there, but your images raise a disturbing question: why are we taxpayers buying this kind of stuff plus the people needed to staff and maintain it?

I'm not picking on California... our state will send three state employees to save a sick squirrel, but we're all going to go broke paying for this stuff. Our kids will be paying the retirement costs for those state employees long after we're gone.

Had nothing to do with that... My stock tires are ht's and low to the ground, no traction, went over the pipes though. If you seen the stuff I run through with these gen3 guys, you would be probably going :doh:


[MENTION=98999]KeithMaine[/MENTION]... This place has been around for a long time, they don't have that many park rangers there, and they charge for the park. Through the years, they have been adding/upgrading this place. They have separate tracks for quarter midgets, dirt bikes, picnic areas and a modified dirt area they have dirt bike races that are in a circuit, big crowds come to this place to watch. They just upgraded this place for off roading last year for us. First time I have been out there since they did this in my 4r.

Been there delivering products for there upgrading though, dirt, rock, gravel, asphalt.

Google the place, one of the better money investments the state has imo.

I agree though. Really lame you have to pay to get in there. No other OHV (to my knowledge is like that)
 
Nice place...miss it.

When I first visited there...I came late in the afternoon...the Ranger there told me, 'You comin' kinda late aren't ya?' I told him I was just out exploring...I had my XJ at the time. He didn't ask for payment...just let me go in and said 'have at it, be safe!'

Maybe it was the same guy...

Not sure how much tax payers are paying, but normally, they do charge an entrance fee.

Plus, without places like this...people would be doing it illegally...tearing up pristine areas...think of street racing...not saying some don't do it anyway, but it could be worse.
 
Just got my 4runner and can't wait to find some time to check this place out. My brother has a jeep. Hopefully I can convince him to make a trip out there. We are both in Roseville ca.
 
My daughter and son-in-law live in El Dorado Hills - Prairie City is just down the road.... The grand-kids have dirt bikes and go there a lot......
 
prairie city is a great place to mess around, test new components and ride dirbikes. were lucky to have it. ill be out there soon once i get my rig running.
 
went out here for the first time with my son for father's day in my stock sr5. had a blast.
