I agree with you. My ECU estimate of my mpg has been pretty damn close to what I've calculated at fill ups.

Both report around 16.5, and that's been all city driving so far.

And I've got almost 800 miles on my 4Runner. I'm looking forward to knocking down that mpg a bit after break in, by letting my 2UZ-FE VVT-i show me what she's really got.

Thats where I'm usually at when I'm able to stay on the road during a tank of gas and my driving is 99% city lately. Staying on the road with this thing is the key words. I go everywhere with this thing.

06 limited... nice chart info. I'm to lazy to go that far in depth. I've only tested it when bored and to make sure things are in check and mostly started that because everyone always talked about the in dash comp being so crappy.

While I believe what members have said about inaccuracy of the trip computer there is no reason why it shouldn't be dead nuts accurate. The speedo/odo appears accurate from my GPS measurement and the engine computer knows exactly how much gas is consumed.

How much "hosing" on is going at the gas pump? - pun intended

I know a number of engineers and many of them are detail oriented like yourself. I am another detail kind of guy but I am in the IT field.

It would really be interesting to figure out how so many people have accuracy issues with the on-board computer in the 4Runner and others do not.
Are the people who have accurate 4Runners doing something different than those who are not as accurate? (ie not resetting their computers after each fill-up)
Are these 4Runners a fluke? Do they have different software or chips or something?

A mystery for 4Runner owners I guess....

Mine's off, about 10% higher than actual.

I'm getting about 18.8mpg running average and 22.2mpg as my best (hand calculated). I also have a similar Excel sheet setup like 06_Limited. I'm not an engineer, but in tech support.
