Price Check on 2012 Limited

I appreciate the civil tone this forum brings, as other forums for other vehicles aren't too civil. I am looking at what appears to be a 2012 Limited 4-Runner, Navigation, JBL, Floor Mats, Tow hitch, Sunroof etc. for out the door 41k. I have searched on this forum for a good retail rate and what others have paid, but haven't reached a real conclusion.

I have and still own (since 1996) 1996 SR5 4WD 4Runner that I am not getting rid of, but have sold my 2009 BMW M3. So I am familar with 4Runner and heritage.

I'm looking right now in the Seattle area and they are saying $400 over invoice with $150 doc fee.

You might try edmunds.com and see their market rate estimates. I highly doubt the 41k is "out the door" unless you live in an area w/ very little tax. In DC metro, you'll find one w/ Entune (non-JBL) for $42.4k msrp discouted to $39.6k w/o the tax, tags, and destination. The JBL 15 speaker nav option will add a few more hundreds to that total.

If it really is out the door, its a good steal...I mean deal.
After sitting in both, I think the 15 speaker sound of the JBL is far better than the 8 speaker Entune system. The fancy functions that use your smartphone's data plane wasn't worth losing 7 speakers. In addition, unless you have an unlimited data plan, that Entune might also turn out to be very expensive once you go over you data limit.

To help you with pricing, you need to list the msrp, and a line-by-line detail of your deal.

'OTD' is ambiguous, but typically implies the total cost to you, including TTL, dealer packs, doc prep, the whole enchilada.

Personally, I feel 10% off msrp is achievable, but a lot depends on where you live, and availability. Some dealers deal, some do not, there's no formulae. Patience, and willingness to travel are your friend.

This is also the best time to negotiate for things like tire swaps, warranties, and so forth.

41k for a limited is an OKAY deal, not a steal but any means. if you think its a good deal, you my freind do not know how to negotiate.
not bragging, but i bought my 2011 4runner sr5 pearl white for 33.995 OUT THE DOOR.
it has moonroof, and 3rd row seat option, running boards :)
to add to that, i custom ordered mine, they only had 1 4runner in stock, because they were just getting 4runner shipments from japan, i had to wait 2 weeks to get it. still managed to get it for under 34k OUT THE DOOR when sticker price for it was ov er 35k!

Ive heard people buying 2011 limited for 38k out the door, 2012 shouldnt be any different...

HINT: dont deal wiith sales guys, call over the phone and talk to fleet manager and ask for his bottom price:gun5:

another thing people ALWAYS overlook, is that they negotiate by the msrp price, lmao msrp is only there wishful thinking, and you should NEVER negotiate the price of the car and your trade in at the same time, DO IT SEPERATELY, cause they WILL get you.
ALWAYS negotiate for the OTD PRICE (out the door price) because in the end thats what matters...
again only fools pay msrp, if your smart youll pay 10% less then msrp OTD!

p.s. youll save a dozen if you buy a sr5, then buy the leather seat trim on ebay for $600 (its the same one the dealer will put on your car and call it a limited) only downside is you wont have the 20" rims, and the crappy nav system (external garmin unit is much better imo)

A couple months ago when I was 4Runner shopping here in Richmond, VA, the best deal I negotiated was $39,500 + title, tax, tags, fees, etc for a fully-loaded new 2011 Limited w/third-row and nav.

Another local dealer offered me an identially-equipped 2011 demo model with 8k miles for $38k.

I ended up getting a used 2010 Limited w/third-row and nav with 41k miles for $34,200 a week later. High(er) miles, but easier on my wallet. And I'm not worried about it... it is a 4Runner after all. :)

Hope this helps!

38k for a limited...doubt it. Limiteds sticker for 43k and up depending on accessories. I checked nearly every dealer within 100 miles while shopping for mine and the average price here was 44100 I ended up paying a little under 41. People are paying 38+ for Trail Editions, I'd like to talk to these people you've "heard" of.

I wouldn't brag either if i paid 33,995 for an SR5 stickered at 35000, certainly not the 10% less that the "smart" peeps are paying.

Just saying :nerd:

Also won't have the leather door panels or leather console or seat heaters or the smart key system or the 15 speaker JBL with a subwoofer and the large screen for the back-up camera or the full time 4wd or xreas suspension or...i'm sure i missed some items. As for the nav its actually a very good system once you digest the 200+ page manual and learn how to operate it, much better than the tomtom and garmin units I've had in the past.

Again, just saying

When I was shopping for my sr5 my goal was MSRP OTD. and I have achieved that. My sr5 sticker price was 37,400 with some change and I got it 37,500 OTD, I live in socal and tax is 8.75.

You obviously didn't understand me. My 2011 sr5 msrp was 35k, I paid just under 34k otd, so before taxes and other bullcrap fees, I paid like 31.5 lol
Much better then fools paying $500 under sticker

And if you go to edmunds.com there is a section where people post how much they paid. There are a few smart people there that posted they bought limited editions for a tad higher if not $38k, look for yourself.
Edmunds.com tmv pricing used to be on the dot years ago, now it's high. If you call over the phone and talk to the fleet manager like I said, you can get a better price then the tmv (true market value) of edmunds. Forget kbb.com, they are too high. I bet these sites are getting paid off by dealers now

Lol you obvously don't understand anything.

I paid 1000 less out the door then the sticker! In reality, before taxes and fees it ends up being are $31500! I feel that's a okay deal that I got, maybe I could have done better if I didn't custom order it...

If you don't believe me about paying $38k out the door, check the section where everyone posts how much they paid at edmunds.com

Btw the tmv pricing on edmunds and pricing on kbb.com are too high in reality

I have a feeling your the kinda guy that believes the car salesmen when he says your getting a good deal

When did Edmund's become a Toyota dealer. If you can buy a Limited for that price then my boss would like to buy all they have. Dealers that don't have anything to offer but a "low" price ought to get out of the business. Dealerships are not non-profit organizations and I know I WILL get flamed for this, I work as a Toyota salesman that does all I can to build value in our organization and what we do for our customers everyday. Free lifetime roadside assistance is just a start. We sell over 600 new and used each month in a town that has around 250,000 people. We could not do that by ripping peoples heads off. I am proud to sell such a fine product as Toyota, and I hope hope you find a deal that makes you happy and allows a professional salesman, like myself, to provide for his family. Merry Christmas!!!

I could post I paid 25K for a 2012 4X4 SR5. I would be lying, but I could post it....
Remember this is the internet and unless there are several sources saying the same thing then the chances of it being true - well, chance is the key word there.
The most important thing to remember about buying is this:
Every salesman at every dealer in every region is different. What is a good deal in Spokane could be a terrible deal in Tampa or a so-so deal in NYC. Bottom line: If you are happy with your deal and you like the product and the dealer gives good service then be happy. A good rule of thumb overall is 10% off MSRP BEFORE TTL.

Oh, you did not "custom" order it. For a custom order it usually takes 3-6 months from Japan. If you got it in a few weeks then you got a dealer transfer.

A good rule of thumb overall is 10% off MSRP BEFORE TTL.

That may be true with domestics these days but there is not 10% mark up on Toyotas. There are dealers out there that will give away the house and make stupids deals like that. You might get close on the most expensive 4Runner available but no way on an SR5.
