X2. Could be way more cost effective to fly there and drive it back. I bought mine in San Jose and drove it back to Seattle. Plane ticket was right around $100 and another ~$100 in gas and food.
I've twice flown one-way to California and driven 4Runners back to north Texas with many stops and camping and hiking and offroading along the way

Thats about a 24 hour drive, around 1600 miles about $300 in gas give or take a few hours/miles/dollars.
About $100 for air fare and then whatever for a taxi to get to the dealership.
So probably $500 total.

Probably more than twice that to ship. Try to get some photos of the underside. Maryland isn't the worst, but depending on where the truck has been it will have at least some surface rust. Be careful on this issue- make sure the frame and body are OK. More than likely the dealer would have sent it off to auction if the rust is excessive, but I recommend double checking.
I've driven between Dallas, Texas, and Washington, D.C., almost a dozen times, and that takes right at 21 hours, so it depends upon where exactly in Maryland and where in Texas... at least American Airlines offers inexpensive and regular flights from DFW to DCA, and/or you could always fly SWA from DAL to BWI...
I was also to find this out after some research, but from what I understand, this truck was special ordered at the dealer because its on the window sticker as a feature.
It actually was from a dealer, the same one that sold her new in fact. That's a rather common price where I'm from. It has the original window sticker and mirror hanging brochures from the Toyota dealer here in Erie along with all service records from the same dealer since it was purchased. It had two owners, the original put 56k on from 01-08 and the second put the rest on till 2013 when they traded it to the dealer. That's when I got her. As soon as I got back from basic I saw it and knew it was love at first sight.

Sounds like you did really good. From what I've seen while spending a stupid amount of time shopping for my 5 speed, the asking prices in the worst of the rust belt- upper midwest and NE, definitely tend to be less, especially compared to the west, and the ones I looked at in that price range were rusted. Maybe not rotted frames or bodies, but more rust than I wanted to deal with. I have not seen that kind of price from a dealer in an area where they don't rust so bad. FWIW I know of a MA dealer trade 02 Limited, 65k, with a totally rotted frame, that went for 6500 at AUCTION a few weeks ago despite the trashed frame being disclosed. I guess anything is possible, but I think it's unrealistic to expect to be able to buy one from a dealer in anything approaching "mint" condition for much lower than retail book. I am comfortable saying that IF the one the OP is considering is in good condition it's worth the 11k. He probably could wait and eventually find a better price somewhere, but someone will buy it for that.

Don't they sell 4 runners where you live?
Seems like a lot of money and effort to get a vehicle at just a fair deal.
I mean I could understand if was a great deal and you were saving a couple thousand below book but you are buying a vehicle at book and then adding the cost of transporting.
Not that it is a bad deal, but I would look more locally. Just me though.
Yes they are holding it till Monday, I put a refundable deposit until my uncle sees the vehicle.

Its not really anything worth spending that much on, you are approaching another trans service, timing belt and water pump, ball joints, suspension (shocks/springs) and maybe brakes, its a 12 year old car seals will be persished based on age, i would spend half the money on a 4runner with 2x the miles and put half the remainder in the maintanence i listed above, and you will make out way better than you will if you buy this "low mile" one. I've paid less than 3 grand for both of my 4runners, and i cant imagine spending over $10k today on a 3rd gen.

Underside looks good from those pictures, as you can see the muffler is not rotting and is original, 02 sensors have no rust on them, frame is only orange where the paint scraped off, looks like it is 1-2 winters old. I still wouldnt buy it, especially since you live in an area that has rust free trucks....

Man, I had no problems finding them all day long here in Asheville NC.
I mean sure mine is a couple years older with more miles but I the were all over the place. Bought mine in October '99 Limited 170k but only paid $4300
You could drive here and back in a day.
Same truck, a few more miles, asking $10500 but you can still negotiate.
Also keep in mind it is a private seller so there are no dealer fees or taxes.
Dealer fees and taxes will cost you over $1k on that one you are looking at.
2000 Toyota 4Runner SR5 (Only 104K Miles!!!))
A bunch more 3rd Gens between the price of $5k and $10 in varying years, trim levels and miles.
I also think you will find the trip to Tx and back to cost you more than $500 by the time you add it all up. $500 might cover gas and plane ticket but then there is meals and hotel. You may be looking at more like a $1k by the time all the pennies add up.
Not trying to tell you your business but I think you can find just as good of a deal closer than Tx and probably closer to you than Asheville. Good luck with whatever you decide though.
