Problem with A-Trac on an '01

I have a 2001 4Runner SR5 Sport Edition. I think this was the first year the 4Runner's got the A-Trac system. I'm experiencing some problems with it.

First, it cuts my power while in reverse, such as backing out of my driveway on an upward slope. I'll have to push the gas about half way down before getting the slightest bit of movement. The engine doesn't rev, and the car wont move. It's cutting my power.

Also, I went mudding last weekend and needed to give it some gas in order to get unstuck, but the A-Trac just wouldn't let me build up a lot of wheelspin.

My question is if anyone else is experiencing these issues, and if there is a fix for it? It annoyed me to the point before of disabling it, but I need it enabled now for some of the terrain I wheel on. Any fixes? Is this normal?

You have to lock the center diff to turn off ATRAC in sand and similar situations (mud, etc.) ATRAC is for wet roads and traction control- not for off roading- it will kill your engine and work your brakes at the =most= inopportune times. It is the button on left side of steering wheel. I learned this the hard way. You cannot use this on pavement- you will cause damage to your tires/drivetrain. The owners manual covers it lightly.

When I enable the center diff lock, the ATrac is still enabled. I think the only thing the center diff disables is the VSC, which is different. I had my center diff locked when I was in the mud, and it was still cutting power to my engine.

Ok Iguess were sticking with this one. Locking center diff only disbles VSC. to disable TRAC you need to do the andymod 2.0.

Im on my phone or else I would throw some links at you. Look in the buyers guide for a description of each system and links to andymod and other stuff.

Thanks Ripcord. Like I said I had the ATrac disabled, but when I'm crawling up some rocky mountains I can't deal with open diffs. Is the Andymod able to switch on the fly without turning the car off, and then back on?

Also I notice you have a 2002, do you experience the same thing I'm talking about?

btw, we hav trac, not A-trac. A-trac is the good one.

What do you mean you had trac disabled? Do you have andymod already or did you mean to say vsc?

I disabled the VSC and TRAC back in November for the Winter. I don't think it was the Andymod, but I got instructions from either here or Yotatech. I just used a wire instead of installing a permanent switch. I then re-enabled it about 3 weeks ago. I'd like to do the Andymod 2.0 though because I like having the Trac most of the time, but when I'm in the Mud or Snow I need it off.

Do you have the Andymod installed?

Difficulty? Parts needed?

Yeah I have it. Its easy, look in my build thread.

U can disable them on the fly, but re-enabling requires a shut down and restart.
