Problem with climate control - It sometimes defaults to AUTO

Guys,

Every once in awhile when I start my '99 limited 4runner up, the climate control moves itself from "manual" to "auto".
Now, I NEVER use Auto. So I'm hoping it's a known and easily fixed issue. Has anyone ever seen this before?

Also, the backlighting for my climate control is so dim, that I can't make it out at night. I'm guessing that's just a bulb issue though?

you can fix it yourself easy fix it is the bulbs ijust fix my you have to take the unit apart they are 4 bulbs they are the ones on the top...

i whent to the junkyard in got them...make sure you put the sleeves on the bulbs back to get the color green....hope that helps

for the control i think s normal but read the manual ihave a 2002 ltd and sometime it does it...

Mine did it too a few years back... after it stopped switching to auto by itself, the buttons would start controlling the wrong functions (hitting Mode would turn off the climate control, turning the temperature knob would activate the front defrost button, etc) and before too long the buttons didn't work at all. Ended up having to get the entire thing replaced for about $500
