Hello and thanks for any advise (sorry ahead of time for typos and bad spelling ) :)

I have a 90 t4r with the 3.0 and a five speed

I have had this problem before and i have read lots of posts on the same problem with no luck just many things to check and i have done my best to check them.

First off it will idle fine no problem can even sit in it and read my Chilton with the ac on :) As soon as i hit the gas pedal it will rev up then drop down and start kicking and sputtering. If i do this while driving it is much worse can't get over 10mph.

I had this same problem about 3k miles ago turned out i put in a defective spark plug form the factory had to finally pay a professional to tell me that for almost 300 bucks and 3 days of work... long story

I have replace the spark plugs after that with ngk plugs (I know now not to install bosh) drove it without any problems for about 3k miles.

One day it would not start just crank and crank and crank. thought maybe fuel pump had gone out, dropped the tank pulled it out to find it was fine no power going to it while cranking or when the avm was open. messed around with wiring and all of a sudden the pump is working fine....

Now it is back to the same problem as before. sputtering and kicking I have checked the avm on the air box with a ohm meter its fine, egr is fine pencil test, no codes in the ecu, fuel pump has full power, and finally i think the tps is good. ( i tested it like the Chilton says to with an ohm meter but could not get any of my feeler gauges in to the tight spot to i carefully checked it by looking at the gap at .5mm good, and then it looses conductivity at about 1.3 mm slightly above the recommended amount i think...) OH! and i installed another set of plugs and wires!

Any ideas? and thanks so much for the help.

 Ok i think i figured out the problem... well not really but a free and easy way to find out what the problem is.

Most of you might have already know this but i found this out today. I think it applys to all 3.0 Toyota motors but i may be wrong worth the call though anyhow. I went in to the dealer looking for a banjo fuel tester adapter -to find out that there is active recalls on my truck. One of witch is for a head gasket replacement. It is a one time only thing and is for the lifetime of the truck. No mater how old or how many miles or even if you are the original owner. If Toyota does not have a record of the head gasket being replaced tied to your vin number you could get a new one installed along with the block or heads replaced if they are damaged due to a faulty head gasket. the service person says they are likely to find whats wrong with mine along the way and let me know. It might even have a blown gasket that's causing the problems. My fan clutch was burnt up and free spinning so maybe... Ill let you all know what i come up with.
