problems with stone/bug deflectors?

I have 08 SE 4runner, and noticed my weathertech's stone/bug deflector coming loose. (lip of the deflector slipping out from where it should tightly fit between the grill & body) Is anyone having similar problems? I was very disappointed in noticing my body paint underneath the grill and about 3/4" above the grill was chipped or scratched... The paint damage is worse than smashed bugs or rock dings on my windshield! Eventually this damage will lead to rust so I'm going to consult this issue with weathertech. Any suggestion on this problem or recommendations on stone/bug deflectors?

Bug deflector

I had the exact same problem with my 2006 black Limited. The rocks and gunk that built up behind the deflector scrached the shi- out of the paint on the hood. I solved that by laying down a strip of heavy duty electrical tape along the edge of the hood. You can't see the tape since it's black. I still have yet to repaint the hood - I figured I'd paint the bumper at the same time since I have a ton of road rash on the front of the truck.

The above fix was good for about 80,000 miles however the idiots at the oil change place and garage try to open the hood by pulling up on the bug deflector and pull it out of the grove every time. The bolt heads pulled through the mounting points the last time they did this and now the grill is barely attached to the hood. I have the hardware to fix the mounting problem but have not remounted the deflector since it will likely blow off at highway speed. It's been on the garage floor for about 4 months.
