Programming Instructions for keyless entry remote?

Sorry guy's read further down the thread and figured out that I do need the module but it isnt under the drivers seat OR under the steering wheel (took the plastic off)! Any idea where else it could be? thanks guys!!!!hwell:

I'm also a noob here. I didn't want to start a whole new thread. I just bought a 99 sr5 t4r. I have only the key and was trying to find out if I can get a key less remote for it. I have the module on the firewall area, and I went to some key less remote site that said to run through the lock/unlock 5 times thing to see if after it locks and unlocks again. If it does, then you have keyless . Now mine does all that. My question is, what remote to I need to get? Where do you find the 'code' or whatever?

Lots of info in this thread... just throwing out my experiences here:

I have a 2002 Sport with the RS3200 + system (I think - it was the system routinely installed at the port for 4Runners not distributed by an independent).

I have the 1512Y remote.

I followed the instructions. The only way I got it to (eventually) work was cycling the key ONCE to ON. Then I waited 2-3 seconds before pressing both lock and unlock on the remote at the same time. I pressed both for a count of "one mississippi" and then held the lock button on the remote for two mississippis.

In short, be patient. Don't cycle the locks too quickly - 40 seconds is a lot of time.

Low and behold, it finally worked!

1999 Limited

For some reason my key fob quit working. I thought it was the battery so I went to Wal-Mart and bought a new battery. No dice. So I then tried programming the remote. I tried several of the combinations of key turns. Here is what finally worked for me.

5 key turns, did not shut the door, and then started over and used 1 key turn. This finally worked. I hope this helps someone.

PS I also have my driver's side lock not fully actuating and had to help it along by hand when cycling the locks.

Can anyone suggest how many times I should turn the key to ON and then back OFF? Also, how quickly or slowly do you turn it? When you get to ON, do you leave it there for a second, or not?

Also, I've read different reports on cycling the locks. LOCK 1 second, UNLOCK 1 second or LOCK/UNLOCK 1 second. Which method have you guys found works better?

So frustrating! I just want the keyless entry to work!

I bought a 1996 4 runner it has power locks and an alarm not sure if the alarm is factory or not it has a red light on the dash it didnt come with a remote and the person I bought it from didnt get one with it either. So I was wondering how can I tell if it has keyless entry and which remote to get. Thanks.

Check under your drivers seat for a black console. This would be the Toyota RS3000 system. There might also be some VIP stickers on the windshield or a manual in the glovebox.

Cycling the locks never worked for me. See post #83 to see which directions I used to get mine to work.

Ok no box under my seat so alarm must be aftermarket. It does have power locks how can I tell if I can ket keyless entry for it?

I lost one facory remote and destroyed the other. I went cheap ($15.10) and bought one off of eBay. The directions include pressing a button or sticking a paper clip in the hole on the side of the ECU. According to Toyota and a poster here the ECU (Body) is part of the fuse box. I can get to the fuse box, but I certainly cant find the ECU part nor the button/hole to press.

I'm not the most mechanically inclined and am super wary of dropping the fuse box with all that wiring.

Can anyone tell me exactly where this button or pin hole is at?

I have tried the door lock and unlock method repeatedly posted earlier here and have had no luck. I can get the locks to cycle after removing my key that should indicate I have the ECU in program mode, but I still cant get the remote programmed.

I appreciate any help....except going to the Toyota dealership who wants an arm and a leg for their remotes and programming..

I contacted the seller and it seems that they sent me a remote for a "dealer installed lock/unlock." Mine is factory installed.

I am in the process of getting the right remote now.. a tad more expensive though..

I bought last Friday, always wanted one and this had all I wanted BUT didn't come with remote entry keyfobs? Did the 1998 4Runners Limiteds come with them?? Where best to acquire if so? I have some for a Corvette if anyone want to swap?!

When I bought my 4Runner the key fob didn't work, bought a battery and it worked. After 6 months, now only the lock button works. I've tried reprogramming and no luck, I can't get into the programming mode. Any ideas? Is it the fob or computer.

I registered to say thanks to the previous posters...I finally got mine to work.

2001 SR5, FCC HYQ1512Y.

I couldn't even get the damn thing into 'programming mode', but I did notice that my driver door lock wasn't fully locking/unlocking during the cycles (as others have noted, probably due to a weak actuator).

I used the manual lock during the cycles to help the actuators (pressing down when locking, pulling up when unlocking). Evidently, this is very important, because everything worked once I did that.

Once the remote was accepted, I was dancing around like an idiot. A couple of my neighbors looked at me weird. Who cares?

i have a 99 4runner and this doesnt work at all. i dont know what im doing wrong. when i do the lock/unlock it seems as if my inner workings inside the door kind of freeze up. for example on like the 5th lock/unlock it is as if the "door locks" (the tab on the door panel) isnt goin all the way up and down. ive tried this at least 20-30 times. nothing is working my remote seems to be working fine according to the tester at advance autos or whatever and ive put new batteries in the remote. the code on my remote is "FCC IP:HYQ1512V CANADA 1551 102 871 RSS-210 DENSO" My remote hasnt worked the entire time ive owned my 4runner (which is about 2 1/2 years) PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!

Neither key is an original key, or as some might say a "master" key. I have purchased a key fob via eBay with all numbers on the back of both fobs matching exactly. I've followed the programming instructions explicitly with no success. My question: would the fact that I do not have a master key affect the programming success? If so, where can I get a master key. Dealership. Before I'd do that though I'd try this lil' trick. I was having th same issue. Then I got the bright idea to put the key into the door keyhole. Turn it to the count of "one one thousand... two one thousand...etc." to "ten one thousand". I finally got that thing to say 'clatchet, clatchet!' Like a daggone decepticon! it scared me! Started at like 6pm and its dark out. After i get over my initial shock that the truck actually spoke I'm a little happy. Then after another hour outside in the dark punching these stupid codes and mashing these dumb buttons on this stupid remote 60,000,000 times this dumb deceptotruck says "clatchet...clatchet!" just once while I'm sitting in the drivers seat with this dumb look on my face like its just messin with me. Now I'm kinda happy and I'm thinking bout calling my friends and waking my wife up to tell 'em I can now unlock my truck from inside the house! Three days later my 2nd fob comes in and this lil' dummy turns the key in the ignition to on 5 times instead of 1 or 2. It immediately dawns on me what I've done and I'm dancing. The neighbors must be thinking, "what is wrong with him?" Outside my truck crumpin' & cussin under my breath like Yosemite Sam! An hour later they're both programmed and you'd think I just won the gold medal in the 100 vs Usane Bolt. Moral of the story... If you got the cheddar just pay the dealership the 75 for the fob and programming. If you don't mind wasting an afternoon or three when you could be BBQ ing or teaching the boy how to catch or throw or tackle or fishing or [insert favorite all afternoon activity here] then by all means take on this exercise in futility. There is a fleeting feeling of accomplishment once you've hit that button for the "first" time and the truck says "clatchet!" And I mean fleeting. You'll hopefully have better success than I did though.

my fob only works on lock. i will buy another one and see if this corrects the problem. my driver door lock actuator is also slow so maybe that will cause the system not to work correctly. anyone have a remedy for this?

Try key in door lock method. That was the ONLY way it worked for me.
